Following the events of the Avengers, Steve Rogers (Captain America) attempts to find his place in the modern world. When Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the target of a ruthless attack, Steve becomes entangled in a conspiracy that threatens the free world. Aided by Black Widow and a new ally the Falcon, Captain America strives to uncover the source of this new threat while combating a legendary assassin: the Winter Soldier.
Every now and then, a blockbuster comes around that offers movie-goers more than mere spectacle. There are plenty exciting effects and smartly staged action sequences in Captain America: the Winter Soldier for sure. But in between all the “oo’s’” & “ah’s,” is a well-crafted story full of rich character development.
Much of the blame can be placed on Chris Evans. Evans gives a marvelous (heh) portrayal of Steve Rogers aka Captain America, emphasizing Cap’s humanity as he struggles to understand the shifts of modern society without compromising his beliefs and values. Despite his reported lack of enthusiasm for the fame associated with the character, Evans still delivers.
