Worst Clix Ever: Taskmaster
Welcome to another edition of Worst Clix Ever, where we find... well... the worst clix... ever. Today's entry is rather ironic: Taskmaster. He's ironic because the previous iteration (Infinity Challenge) was actually selected in our other series, Awesome Clix.

See Awesome Clix: Taskmaster

So why is this Taskmaster so terrible? Oh let me count the ways.... right of the bat you'll notice how fairly mediocre he is on the front of his dial. A 6 range with [3] damage isn't bad (not to mention the 10 Attack), but the lack of move-and-attack and willpower means he's going to lose that click of Stealth after making an attack -- an attack that can't be made until the second turn. That's a tough sell for 140 points.

Continued below...

Avengers Taskmaster HeroClix Dial

Taskmaster's claim to fame is his Photographic Reflexes, which could easily let him make an attack with a [12], but by the time he gets it, his core attack value is down to 8 or 9.  Assuming he gets a +3 bump to his attack value this way, he still needs to roll a d6, which gives him a 50% chance to take unavoidable damage afterwards! That's... well... awful.

The rest of him isn't so great either. The only real saving grace of this figure is the fact that he's a Wild Card -- but even with that, he's just too expensive to field (taking up nearly half the points in a 300 point game).

Congrats Taskmaster, you're both an Awesome Clix and this week's Worst Clix Ever!

Your Comments:
Experienced piece has 5 clicks of health, 3 with Super Senses. That's good enough to bog down opponents in action tokens while your primary attackers dish out the hurt. For her era, she's WAAAAY better than Web of Spider-Man's Mary Jane C;

yeah that's if she can even make an attack before she's knocked out XD

MM Vertigo is a terrible primary attacker with her 0 damage value, but a pretty phenomenal support piece. 3 simultaneous targets with Incapacitate; Perplex; costing 65 points at the most... In the right place, she could be a monkey wrench in anyone's plans, especially in the game before Indomitable.

for the points yes this is very bad!! 140 for just a 10At really!! but even tho he's still better than mutant mayhems Vertigo -_-

@Ozmodius
I think that these articles have to be about golden age figs. If we look at modern age, as a general rule, there are no truly awful figures. These days the 'worst clix ever' are probably those that require an errata to fix them within a month of release because they are too powerful.
I like these blasts from the past to remind us how bad things were. Some of the special powers introduced back in this set were massively overcosted and had drawbacks. This was one if them. On the other hand several figs from the set are still pretty useable today( usagent, ultimate cap, iron widow cone to mind).

Oh and The Me sorry to not pick but the Awesome Taskmasters are from Xplosion and Chaos War, not Infinitely Challenged!

@Ozmodius

I understand your bottom line is "How is this relavent to today?" But I think the point is even back then, he was overcosted. I have played him back in the day and he got destroyed fairly easily primarily because he was half your team thus likely outnumbered. You have to count on a lot of luck to make those Super Sense rolls. Otherwise you wasted a lot of time.

These articles are always written about golden age figures, ambiguously comparing them to modern figures. Which IMO it is very rare a golden age figure even comes close to a modern. The game was just different back then. Defenses were lower, point values were lower, special powers or traits weren't on *every* figure, and resources hadn't been created yet. I always feel these articles are an apples to oranges comparison. Show me a worst clix ever for a modern figure, then I might see your point.

In general, I usually disagree with these articles. Our dear task master here is not completely useless, in fact he could be a game changer. Recent AoU Ultron has a printed 13 which Tasky here could take, say on click 4, then use CCE or RCE to bump the attack to 15! Little help with a BCF, from an axe construct, he might as well be wielding a lightsaber. Sure he 'might' take 3 clix of damage after, but to get a 15 Atk on what could easily be a 21 defense, it may very well be worth it.

The only reason this set could have done well was the new change to the game with special powers and keywords. If the stats didn’t kill you, the unturnable dials did.

Posted by: Lord Logan on 6/12/2015 12:32:51 PM
Those stats don't hold up. But on a positive note, the sculpt and paint are great!!
