Batman: Dead End
The Le
06/14/2010

BAtman Dead EndPremiering at the 2003 San Diego Comic Con, Batman: Dead End set a new standard for "fan made movies." Sandy Collora was behind this masterpiece and made it for a paltry $30,000. Batman: Dead End was supposed to be his calling card, showing off his directing skills (and he did a damn fine job in my opinion).

What's really fascinating is that this fan film came out a full two years before Nolan's Batman Begins hit the big screen, yet there are quite a few similarities in overall style and tone. Gone is the raging campiness of the Burton/Schumacher era, and in comes a nitty gritty feel that makes Batman far more human and accessible than previously seen on the big screen.

Watching it again after all these years, I have to admit that there are some low points in this movie (mostly with the cheesy dialog), but you're in for quite a treat once the action kicks in.

Fanboy favorite Kevin Smith called it "possibly the truest, best Batman movie ever made", and comic legend Alex Ross praised it as "Batman the way I've always wanted to see him".

Take a good look at The Joker. He's actually played by the late Andrew Koenig, who played "Boner" on the Growing Pains tv show. Note that the video below is subtitled in Croation (don't ask).

There's a couple surprises that I won't spoil for you new people, but let's just say that I think Wizkids could totally come out with a Batman vs... stand alone boxed set (based on this video) for us HeroClix fans (and HorrorClix fans).

[Spoiler]
A HeroClix Batman vs Predator boxed-set would be very cool, and it would be based off of a comic book too. Having it compatible with HorrorClix would be even cooler! Not sure how well Aliens would work into there though....

I remember seeing this a while back. It is a very nicely done video and would love to see AvP coming to HEROclix. I made a custom Sinestro Corps Predator whom appeared on a page during Sinestro Corps War.

I thought this was one on the best fan made films I have even seen. I didn't realize until just now that the Joker was played by Andrew Koenig, son of Star Trek great Walter Koenig. I was equally sadned to find out recently that Andrew had passed away. He will be missed, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I totally dig this! I fairly enjoyed most of the comics that crossed Alien and Preditor with some of our favorite superheroes. A clix set would be kind of cool, I am one who also collects so it would be nice to have a Joker sculpt like this. Oh and a Prediter duo clix would be freaking amazing! (sorry about spelling)

We've already got Aliens, Predators, along with plenty of Batmen and Jokers.
They are fully compatible with each other with a little bending of the rules.

No need to dream about a new set! Enjoy!

I would love to see a clix product made from this!

I too saw this when it came out. It is one amazing film. But can you really call it a fan film, when made by professionals?

I'm pleased to say I've seen this before. I actually brought it around work forever showing new people the greatness of this thing. My real beef is the Joker and his script/laugh/look. No one on earth really works that ultra-skinny with the long, pointy nose look. That's why the three major live action ones have strayed from that look.

Great to see this on here because it really is Batman as Batman.
