HeroClix 5 Worst Modern Age FiguresHi again and welcome to another HeroClix World Top 5 Tuesday! Today we’re taking a look at the top 5 worst clix characters of the modern age. These 5 characters, in my opinion, are just bad choices when building your teams. These characters were selected based on what they bring to a 300 team for their points, and how well they work as part of a team.

Let's kick things off with...

#5 Power Girl
So the first of the worst on my list is Power Girl from Brave and the Bold. Now here is a character a lot of fans had high hopes for, but ultimately fell short. So what makes her so bad? It’s not her powers they seem to be right. It’s not her trait, constant super strength is always a plus. It’s the combination of her combat values and he expensive 199 points.

Continued below...

Power Girl HeroClix Dial

What she brings to the table is just not enough for a character that is taking up almost 200 points of your team. Her first 2 clix are arguably her best and then it’s all down hill from there. Her starting speed and attack values of 10 aren’t so bad, the 4 damage and 17 defenses aren’t that bad either. The problem is after that she plays too much like a character from the Hypertime set. Her values steadily drop from there, you might think, wait she gets hypersonic speed later in her dial, and yes she does. The problem is her attack values on those clix are at best an 8, or at worst a 7, yuck.

Wait what about her special power; EYES UP HERE, SOLDIER? Nope it’s so situational that it may never come up. It states: Power Girl can use Exploit Weakness, but cannot use it on a character that can use Willpower or Indomitable or a character that possesses the Robot keyword. The bottom line is you could spend your 199 points so much better than on Power Girl, she’s just too top heavy. (Yeah, bad pun intended.)

Your Comments:
In defence of the Pawn (and other generics), they are great for bulking out the numbers in theme-teams, and can also be made much more useful if given ATAs.

Anybody that thinks Power Girl is even average, let alone good,
is somebody that I want to play against.

She should be 169 points with that dial.

they are all bad but i have all of them exept for power girl

Kind of makes me glad I never pulled one from a booster

@scourge

love that idea!

hmmm maybe wost 5 figure sculpts in modern as a follow up :)

@ajsprint: the author meant to say Knight, not Pawn. We know this because he also mentions "29 points", which is the cost of the white Knight. I've corrected this in the article.

Posted by: The Le on 5/17/2011 3:37:05 PM
Too bad the BP special power states "you may replace this character with Brave and the Bold #007 Checkmate Knight(white)..."
So you can't switch if for another pawn or the black's knight.

So, who do folks think SHOULD replace the no-longer-Modern-Age Chamber? I certainly think Marvel Boy should take the #2 spot from Checkmate Pawn (White)...being the cheapest of the Spy keyword is definitely worth something.

@Sparkdemon
Wow, dude, I think maybe you're taking this article a bit too seriously. Like Geminimerc said, it's only one man's opinion. Chill-ax. I love HeroclixWorld, even if I don't agree with all the articles. Congrats again, The Le, for always keeping us Clix' fans updated. I for one sincerely appreciate it.

Posted by: Owlman166 on 5/17/2011 1:23:02 PM
im sorry slade, but you misinterpreted my post. dropping like a fly is not a bad thing. have you not seen magneto, a 200 point peice just like power girl drop like a fly? being top heavy reduces their point values (used to probably not, but now does)power girl is meant to be a tank, and thats what she does, having more clicks than cosmic spiderman, and having invulnerability or impervious on all but three of her 10 clicks. in a 300 point game, if you protect her from outwit enough, she will be devastating.

People shouldnt take these articles to heart. It's one mans opinion bout certain clix. I dont agree with everything they say but I wont stop reading bcuz of it. Chamber was my fav Gen X character, I was disapointed they made him so weak. Hell I think Jubilee from supernova had better stats. My point is Heroclixworld is entertaining and informative and I for one will be a fan of the site for days to come(even though I never been pikd when they give prizes away. Lol). Keep up the good work.

@Sparkdemon

I appreciate your view, however stating that a bad piece is supposed to be a bad piece does not make it a good piece. If you choose not to read further articles that is your right. But keep in mind this is opinion based and opinions will differ.

Thanks fro reading though.

@Brendan lol thanks for that but spellcheck did not and would not help in this case. It is spelled just fine. :) Its just the worng version of the word.

As you can see we all make mistakes, like you just did. ;)

Posted by: Slade Wilson on 5/17/2011 9:34:21 AM
Man, whoever wrote that needs to use spell check. Which not witch. wow

With AV, JL, MU and CR now outside Modern Age characters from these sets can no longer be on this list. And I also feel there are quite a few other characters worth this title:

My Top Five:

1)
BB Lex Luthor and Brainiac 200 points looks really bad and would be great at lesser points. It has potential, with great powers and special powers but at 200 points you never get to carry those 12 frindly characters and will be too much of your total points.

2)
SI Mephisto 145 points has a really low damage value with little to no potential for damage. Outwit should have been a trait, it should also have perplex and with exploit weakness on all clicks.

3)
BB Superman 216 points and AN Superman 173 points are really not that super. AN is a bit better but lacks starting clicks with hypersonic speed or at least running shot.

4)
SI Dum Dum Dugan both variant 75 points. I have never seen this being played. The SHIELD variant has running shot, perplex, will power stealth etc. The Skrulls variant has outwit, toughness, will power, plasticity/running shot special power and a great trait. But still these does not make a good soldier.

5)
AN Dominator 36 points and Ruling Caste Dominator 76 points. Amazons, Parademons, Checkmate and even League of Assassins were designed as great generics but these feels like a waste.

Almost Making the Top 5:

WS Jackal 72 points. Great potential but way too short dial with the last click without any powers and abilities.

BB Talia al Ghul 67 points and Damian Wayne 42 points were only made these because they could re-use the sculpts.

HA Marvel Boy 102 should be only some 40-50 points and able to transport the entire Agents of Atlas team. Then it would be very dangerous secondary character.

AA The Top 80 points. Great powers but too low attack value and it just doesn't work.

AN Osiris 101 points was already in the BD set at 127 points with better dial.

SI Ms Marvel Avengers variant 168 point as opposing to the M

Note: Please be advised that this article was written prior to 5/15, when Mutations and Monsters became Golden-Age-Only. Rather than delaying the article and asking the Author to revise, I made the call publish it as-is. Any anger over the inclusion of Chamber lies with me. That being said, I support the Author's list 100%.

Thank you,

this is just a bad, bad, bad article. one of the 5 pieces aren't even modern age legal. there are pieces out there that are far, far, far worse than these. Grey Gargoyle. Mephisto. Lashina.Iceman.Ocean Master. there's 5 that are far worse than the five printed. All are pints bloated and have horrible SP's or really really bad power combos.

Since MeChANiClySM claimed Mephisto, how about Taskmaster? How is he not here?

How about Mephisto?

I am starting to dislike this website more and more each time i read one of these TERRIBLE reviews on ANYTHING heroclix. while they may be right on the pawn, ONLY because his AV AND damage values are terrible, but i can prove EVERY other character WRONG:

Power Girl: shes SUPPOSED to drop like a fly, thats why your supposed to play her as the tank and use a flash and a batman with her, allowing batman to outwit, flash to hit, him to hit, then power girl. yes she is a tent pole, and yes she drops, but in a 300 point game the enemy will have a hard time taking her down.

marvel Boy: your SUPPOSED to be MC with him til the end, hes 102 points for SEVEN mind control clicks. "oh hey there mr. green scar, whats that? dont know whos and enemy anymore? let me help you with that...."

chamber: easy, great xmen healing battery, use him with cyclops and lets see his power REALLY fly

bruce wayne: again, use him to mind control, whats more annoying than to say "my 33 point peice, stole your 200 point peice, and raped your 150 point peice? AND i can do it again"

yes, there might be better peices out there... for more points, or dont do things quite the same.

This is sparkdemon, signing out, doubt i will read one of these ever again.

you know, never thought of robin being used as a target with those bright colors, Batman is an evil genius

Posted by: luccas on 5/17/2011 5:22:15 AM
I think you didn't read the background on the character card.
This Bruce Wayne is when he wiped himself his memory of being Batman, as an enemy was close to discover it was his secret identity.
So, only Mind Control as he manipulates people with his billions, and Mastermind, as there's always a pawn to take the shot in place of him.
But yes, he is useless for 33 points.
And remember: when your range is 0, count a range of 4 for Mind Control...

I meant #3, chamber

Posted by: spazzzzle on 5/16/2011 11:27:46 PM
ummm, this figures not modern age as of 2 days ago.

Posted by: spazzle on 5/16/2011 11:27:13 PM
White Checkmate Pawn works great with the right plan. Take four of them with Larfleeze and tie up opponents while the orange constructs devour your opponent in 300 point games!
