HeroClix Interview James SchaikThe Le: About how many figures did you get into the Brave & Bold set?

James: For Brave and the bold I had done about ten or so before the plug was pulled. I can't really give specifics but the ones I did do were some of my best work ever. That set is going to be great when it comes out (although I can neither confirm or deny the existence of such a set). The thing that marks Brave and the Bold is that it was the first set that was commissioned solely out of house. So the sculpts were done by other freelance sculptors as well, so the talent pool on that set is going to be higher and more diverse. It will be very exciting to see what other sculptors came up with if it does come out.

The Le: Did you do any non-HeroClix work for Wizkids?

James: Yes quite a bit. I worked on Mage Night and had many figures in that game. I worked on Sports clix when they did that. I loved working on Creepy Freeks. I did quite a few of those including, Frosty the Snotman, Undead kitty, Frankenstien's Teddy Bear, just to name a few. I used to do quite a lot of mechs for Mechwarrior, I did the Legionare, and a whole bunch of others for that game that I can't remember the name's for. I did the stealth suit promo giveaway for Haloclix. I did some stuff for Horrorclix namely, Jack Jack the Wolfboy, The Knifethrower, Jason, Freddy, and the freddy worm and his oven. I also did many other products and licensed characters as developement projects that never saw the light of day. Often if there was a licence they were thinking of going after they would have prototypes of the characters sculpted up so they could approach the prospective company and show them and say "see this is what we can do". It would help them secure the licence and when they got it the figure would just be slotted into the final product somewhere. So yeah there where many exciting characters done over the years.

HeroClix Interview James SchaikThe Le: What are you working on now?

James: I work for many different companies now. As far as superheroe's go I do a lot of work for a Company called Pulp City. They have their own super hero game that is quite good and the characters are really well designed and very original. I do work for Wyrd Miniatures and their Malifaux game. I do work for Reaper miniatures for thier Chronoscape line which is really cool because you get to work on pretty much anything you want to. I also do work for Rafm miniatures on their USX line which is always fun because it is sort of your modern/post apocalyptic line of figures so the characters are pretty cool.

Note: Here are some of the companies I have worked for:

1. Pulp City Heros: Pulp-city.com
2. Wyrd Miniatures: Wyrd-games.net
3. Reaper Miniatures: Reapermini.com
4. RAFM Miniatures: Rafm.com

I was really hoping you would get into the sculpting compounds he uses as well as more about how he actually sculpts the figure

James has always been one of my favorite Heroclix sculptors, even when his characters are standing still, they look dynamic. I am glad he did lots of figures for HoT.

"Who is the character on the last page here, the woman in the sci-fi snake-head battle armor?"

That would be Sister Bedlam from Pulp City, here is a link: http://pulpmonsters.com/heroes,41.html

Thanks for the comments.

Ah, now that I look at it more closely it's the World's Finest sculpt. Mea Culpa ;p

That looks like a new Batman in a Dark Knight look! Brave and the Bold already looks promising!

Wow, just wow. Some Awesome stuff man, and you're right, the manufacturing process definitely loses alot of the details. The only that struck me the most was looking at your superman holding supergirl. The differece is surprising. I look forward to seeing more in B&B.
