Spider-Man Movie Green GoblinThings that could have been better:

•The Green Goblins costume. Other than the mask he looked more like something out of Power Rangers. Yeah, I know they were going for something more modern that represented Osborne’s military connection. Still I think throwing a tattered purple tunic over his chest and shoulder would have made him a little more menacing and it would have looked great in flight scenes.

•Leaving high school for college all in the same movie. In the comics Peter had all these great adventures while still in high school. In the movie he didn’t really start his crime fighting career until after graduation. I just felt they missed some opportunities here.

•Kirsten Dunst’s Portrayal of Mary Jane Watson. Don’t get me wrong, I think she is a pretty good actress and all. However, the way she was portrayed in this film she just didn’t feel like the sassy free spirited Mary Jane from the comics. Instead, she comes off as low on self-esteem and a little contrived.

Spider-Man was one of the most enjoyable film experiences of my life. I went to see it at least 3 times in the theater, and enjoyed it each time. With solid story-telling, fantastic effects and a hero you can relate to, what was not to love here?

I give Spider-Man 4.5 stars out of 5.
