Even with some flaws, The Dark Knight Rises is still very entertaining. On the plus side the film is well directed, with a balance of outstanding action sequences and transfixing drama. The cast provides superb performances throughout the film. Tom Hardy brings the correct amalgamation of physicality and intelligence to the character of Bane. The veteran actors Gary Oldman, Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman are wonderful as always in their roles and just a joy to watch.

Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of Selina Kyle actually works quite well. Hathaway seamlessly shifts from independent “cat” burglar, to relying on her feminine wiles when it benefits her character. Another new addition to the cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance as Detective John Blake brought some much needed optimism to this otherwise dark tale. In some ways Levitt manages to keep the film going when all hope seems absent.

Although, I’m still undecided on if I like the little name change bit at the end. Christian Bale once again nails the dual part of Bruce Wayne and Batman, gruff voice and all. In fact Bruce Wayne endures quite a bit in this film and perseveres, pushing through the pain as only the Batman could.

It’s this reviewer’s opinion; both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are superior films to the Dark Knight Rises. That being said, the film does its job of entertaining the audience and offers a appropriate end to Nolan’s trilogy. It may not be my favorite in the series, but the film is not a disappointment by any means.
