Note: Action Comics #5 and #6 is a self-contained story that is not part of the story arc. Those issues have been skipped for the purposes of reviews.
Action Comics #4 left Superman is quite the predicament. The citizens of the world do not trust him, Metropolis has come under attack, and his supporting cast Lois Jimmy, and Lex find themselves in a section of Metropolis that has been miniaturized and taken aboard the Collector’s ship. As if this wasn’t bad enough, nothing could prepare readers for Action Comics #5 & #6. These issues depart form the current story and tell a completely different tale featuring Superman and the Legion of Superheroes battling for Clark’s very sanity.
Why did they decide to deviate from the main story just when things were getting interesting? What was that all about? Anyway, I’m glad that’s all over with as Action Comic’s brings us back to the story that has been an enjoyable read for the most part.
The story opens with Superman preparing to launch himself into orbit to board the Collector’s ship. This is quite the feat for Superman as he has yet to fly. However, with his friends in danger, Superman is determined to reach the alien spacecraft and pulls off a most incredible feat in a fun and fantastic way. Once aboard the Collector’s ship, he finds not only the section of Metropolis that has been preserved, but segments from other worlds including Krypton. These miniaturized bottled cities are all that remain of the worlds the Collector has visited and ultimately destroyed. Upon making this discovery the Collector offers Superman a choice, save the city from his adopted planet Earth, or the city from his birth world Krypton.
