With Spider-Man movie reboot this year, we thought we'd look back at the first 3 Sony Spider-Man movies. Let's continue with...
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Sequels to block buster films can often be a bit of a letdown. Many times they can feel forced or seem to be made solely as an attempt to make more money. Not the chase with 2004’s Spider-Man 2. Rami and company struck gold again yet again.
The film re-unites the previous cast and director, which is always a plus. I hate it when actors are switched out during a film franchise. The movie picks up pretty much where the first one left off, and takes all of its key characters to different stages of development throughout the movie. Once again top-notch story-telling was combined with impressive visual effects. The result is a movie that may even be superior to the original.
What I liked about the film:
•Jaw-dropping action sequences. Spidey and Dock Ock’s battle on top of the speeding subway car is still one of the most entertaining action scenes in a movie. Go ahead watch again on Blu-ray, it’s pretty intense.
•The progression of the films characters during the course of the movie. Peter, MJ and Harry all go through dramatic changes throughout the story, and in the end all of them are transformed.
•Alfred Molina’s performance as Doctor Octopus. Even though they took some liberties with the character, making Doc-Ock a more sympathetic villain. Alfred Molina pulled it off. What he did with the character made me like and despise him at the same time.
