Top 10 HeroClix Wildcards

Wildcards have always been an interesting way to give an offset character a desirable Team Ability or ATA. There’s all types of Wildcard Team Abilities -- Calculator, Legion of Superheroes, B.P.R.D., Minions of Doom, Spider-man Ally, Snowflake, and even some are Traited!

I've Compiled a Top Ten List of the BEST wildcards in the Modern Game of Heroclix! Now we will start with Number 10…

#10. Deathstroke

HeroClix Deathstroke Dial Arkham Origins

He’s a GREAT figure, starting off the bat with Charge, Exploit Weakness and a nasty special power. Improved targeting and enhanced Movement really make this guy scary coming out of the woodwork. He’s got a nasty trait that can also bring in some bonus points in a tight point tournament. His Wild Card status can make it an even easier piece to add it onto your team.

At 195 points, Deathstroke's kind of pricey, which is why he made number 10 on our list.

Deathstroke is a Rare from the Batman Arkham Origins Set and if you choose to buy him from the secondary Market he will cost you around the $25-34 price range.

i am looking for before card sets that are wild cards how do i tell if the click is a wild card without using a actual card is there a symbol on the base that tells me i am new to the game so make it in terms i can figure out lol

another wild card that's great would be sin and crossbones

yeah

Posted by: decoder on 7/26/2014 5:50:44 PM
death mask is another choice of mine

my favorite wild card WOS DEADPOOL!! REDICULUS REGEN ALL THE WAY!!! HAHHA

@Bam: Water Terrain is hindering terrain for movement purposes. So Spider-Man, who can ignore hindering terrain for movement purposes, can ignore water terrain for movement as well.

DP Flag Smasher and his minions did a job on my TAs in a recent sealed event. They basically remove the TA. So none of his pieces took Mystics damage from my Shroud or Paladin which was copying it.

Played IIM Iron Monger last night. He belongs in this discussion not because he is great, but because he's unusual. wildcarding by stealing a TA from your opponent was fun. My opponent could not use his Superman TA (to ignore hindering) for the entire game.

Really not sure what you ranked them in terms of. Certainly not competitive playability.

IIM Dreadknight and CW Taskmaster really should have been on the list, and very high up on it also.

Both are Minions of Doom and both have the Thunderbolts KW. That means you can assign a TA you desire with Tbolts, and ALSO get your Wildcard TA, both at the same time.

If that wasn't enough, both are incredibly good for the points. Taskmaster is perhaps the most 'swiss army knife' possible in this game. Dreadknight has the equivalent of BCF from range. And to top it off? He can Revert into FI Hawkeye at the Knockout Gas power's start, and that Hawkeye keeps Tbolts.

Also, who is Namor going to copy with 5 points left over on a standard 300 game? No one. He's only a useful wildcard in at least 500 points, and only better at 1000 + when the other Phoenix Five can come in play also, with support alongside.

My favourite Wildcards are TT Dr. Light, ASM Spider-Girl (both), FI Thule Society Priest, SLOSH Cosmic Boy (both), Shrinking Violet (main set), Phantom Girl (main set), Blight, Wildfire and Tellus, especially Dr. Light, both Spider-Girls and Thule, because I think they're underrated. Dr. Light gave me a lot of wins accompanied by some of the figures of my list. Thanks for reading my list.

Web of Spider-Man DEADPOOL beats all!!! Kiss my ass!!

Posted by: Decoder on 5/9/2014 9:56:31 PM
The Namor could make the top of a lot of lists. Every time we have an event with high points at my venue guys slap the 2pt Atlantis ATA on him as well so then he has a 20def from range at all times as he drowns wakanda. At least with the new ATA rules it makes it a little tougher to use now.

@Larry Dwyer: This top 10 list is for MODERN AGE only. The Mary Jane pog is in Golden Age (thankfully).

Posted by: The Le on 5/9/2014 6:41:50 PM
And not to mention, Deathstroke has invulnerable and not impervious.

Posted by: Larry Dwyer on 5/9/2014 6:32:22 PM
What a horrible list. You left out multiple wildcards like Mary Jane pog, many jokers and a bunch more. This is just poor writing and was a waste of time.

Posted by: Larry Dwyer on 5/9/2014 6:07:37 PM
DNA, actually a point of order. Your #1 choice, P5 Namor may be a great pieces, but not because he is a wildcard. In the standard modern 300 point game, at 295 points you will not be able to field any other pieces on your team for him to copy the TA from.

Posted by: superfriend on 5/9/2014 8:38:48 AM
I think one of the issues with Wildcards is they way the TAs are given out. In Marvel we have Spiderman and Doom. In DC, we have Calculator and Legion. So in Marvel, you can have a random hero or villain and make them a wildcard. In DC, the wildcard idea has blurred into various teams.

So everyone in the Fearsome Five gets it. Or everyone who is a member of Flash's Rogues Gallery gets it. Do they all deserve it? No. I know it was done because a number of them served on the Suicide Squad, but then why not give them that TA instead?

The Legion and LSV get it for being from the future, having future tech which could mimic it. But that leaves modern day DC heroes without a wildcard TA. So Constantine and Nightwing end up with a trait saying they are wildcards.

What we need:
1. A TA for modern age DC good guys who are wildcards.
2. To give out the modern age wildcard TA for both heroes and villains ONLY when they deserve it.
Maybe WK just feels there are not enough of these characters to justify it.

Finally, candidates for wildcard TAs should be those who have served on multiple teams which have TAs in the game. If they were in the Fearsome Five but never any other team, why should they get to use the TA of some other group?

This was a very tough list to compile!
A lot of characters I also tried to stay away from were pieces that would soon become retired(Constantine was one,I just couldn't add to the list).
But, thanks for reading and discussing my article!!!
I really appreciate it and stay tuned for my future articles!!!

Nightwing - DC - HeroClix 10th Anniversary #007

A Leader of any Team (Trait) Nightwing is a wild card. When you reveal your force, choose a friendly character's keyword; Nightwing possesses that keyword for the rest of the game. Nightwing can use Leadership, but only removes action tokens from characters using a team ability that Nightwing can use.

I just like Nightwing. My only issue with this piece is its 0 range.

Posted by: superfriend on 5/8/2014 11:24:04 AM
My personal honorable mention has gotta be Taskmaster from CW. Being able to copy practically anyone's powers makes him highly useful to fulfill any type of role you need in your force.

Posted by: Bamf on 5/8/2014 11:11:17 AM
I also liked how you put the spiderman symbol in death strokes scope on the main pic

Posted by: Ares117 on 5/8/2014 10:15:41 AM
CW Hawkeye should have definatley been on there, he's one of the best! And if he wasn't he should have a least been an honorable mention..

Posted by: Ares117 on 5/8/2014 10:12:59 AM
My personal list would include CW Hawkeye. He has pulled more than his weight many times for me.

Posted by: laker9903 on 5/8/2014 9:02:21 AM
I would have went with Teen Titans Deatstroke over the bloated Arkham one.

Posted by: Wade on 5/8/2014 8:56:00 AM
AvX Spider- Man @ 125 pts. HSS only limited if he starts adjacent to someone else. Hurt a little by lack of starting willpower or substitute. Both issues are easily repaired and make Spidey riduculous for opponents to deal with. He can get anywhere easily except for indoor blocking and water terrains. The best part is his defensive abilities make him tough to hit. Combat Reflexes/Toughness combined with enhanced ranged super-senses. If you can give him stealth with CW Sharon Carter or Bat-Utility it will be a crazy match-up.
