HeroClix FCBD 201403-30-2014: Midtown Comics is reporting that the 2014 Free Comic Book Day figure is actually Batman and the Joker!

It's actually a 2-figure "Quick Start" kit set with both the Batman and the Joker, with sculpts from the Batman Arkham Origin set -- and it has a $4.99 MSRP on their website.

(also see: Arkham Origins HeroClix Spoilers)

Here's what we know it comes with...

•Batman figure
•Joker figure
•Character cards
•Quick start rules sheet
•Mini map

Unconfirmed, but we assume these will be new dials. (note: images below come from the Arkham Origins HeroClix set. We have not confirmed the actual sculpts that will be used, but we're pretty sure it's these).

Continued below...

HEroClix Batman Joker

Be advised that this FCBD "figure" is actually a Quickstart kit. If it's like the Superman Quickstart, then we're looking at a $4.99 price tag... which means this isn't a "Free" comic book day figure at all. At that price this will likely be a product for sale on the shelf, rather than something free; even if you seperate the figures to give away, the cost is likely too high to be worth it for stores to give away. We're not sure if Midtown Comics made a mistake on this listing or if Wizkids is simply pulling out of the FCBD process completely.

More news as we get it.

Your Comments:
I have had the same thing that happened last year. Called a comic book store asked if they had the thor fcbd fig and he said "we do but its only for the kids" Why when wizkids has put on their boxes "14 and up" do the comic book store only give the fcbd figs to the young kids when most of the heroclix players are adults that's collect the figs and play it more then the kids.

@Pepper, my understanding is that this is not a free set. The store paid for it -- it's actually a commercial product. It seems Wizkids didn't do a "free" figure this year (I have no idea why). So technically, as a non-free product, they can choose to do with it as they will.

whats the deal with this comic book store:
WHATEVER...
548 Castro St
San Francisco, CA, 94114
(415) 861-9428
Store ID: 3135

the folks in this store are so mean to teens/young adults.

I saw one of the staff in the store giving a small kid (3 year old or so) the WizKids Batman HeroClix figurine, so I went to him to ask for one as well and he said "we don't have it and if we did, it would be for kids only". He was kinda pissed at me for asking it.... he flat out lied to me about not having it, I literally saw him giving it to this kid.

ALSO, I don't see any rules of who receive the wizkids batman figures, it doesn't say on the website below that the toy is ONLY meant to be given to babies and kids under 5 or so.

Can comic books stores like the Store ID: 3135 take the freebies that you guys sent them to give to the public, act all selective to whom the freebies should go to? I really don't see any rules at what age I have to be to get the wizkids batman figure!

I'm very upset. This is the only store in San Francisco that has the wizkids batman figurine, but refuses to give to teens and young adults and they lied about not having. I'm a big batman fan and I was really looked forward to getting this figurine for my collection. I went to all SF locations and none of it has it besides this store and the owner/staff lied to me about not having it. I will definitely not do business with this store.... instead of treating all comic book readers the same, they choose to be rude, mean to the teens/young adults and nice only to the babies.

@Ian
I agree, its easy to lose track of how much we spend on this hobby / game. I like to think of it as both a collection and an ever changing game. The key is to buy what you like / can afford and be happy with that.

Example: Until SLOSH, I never pulled a prime. I despirately wanted one, but waited. One day I found BM Black Queen for 3.50 in a store and bought it just so now I can say I own a prime. Now in SLOSH I've pulled Cheetah and my son pulled Riddler/Nigma. The goal met, I happily traded the Cheetah prime for a number of other pieces.

I hope they don't have the same dials as the AO set. I got lucky enough to buy almost all of the set that my store had to offer and now I'm the only one with figures that have that bonus 50 point trait. My first figure was the FCBD Iron Man last year. It's a slippery slope. Dropped more than 500$ this year on Heroclix. SO worth it. Marvel sucks, DC forever!

Posted by: Ian on 4/3/2014 6:53:15 AM
Actually. There is no FCBD Heroclix this year:( This set was actually offered in PREVIEWS two months ago at $4.99. I bought one, but did not expect to see it in May....It is likely still available for order if you ask your local comic book store.

I agree on less stores that usual. More likely, this will show up as the regular product to replace the Superman Quickstart after FCBD. So if you were going to get the Superman one, you might want to get it sooner than later.

Posted by: superfriend on 4/2/2014 9:48:00 AM
@Mark G, You can try to get them to order to get you one. Their orders for FCBD were due 2 months ago. And to everyone else, yes $4.99 is the relative retail price, don't expect them for free. Expect even less stores than usual to have them.

Posted by: ajsprint on 3/31/2014 12:30:14 PM
@Mark G.: I agree. At $5.00 I will likely buy a couple and give them to some of my friend's kids to try out. It's a good impulse buy at a good price.

As for the "What it this" factor, stores might be better off bundling a random CUR piece that cost them almost nothing that this. Any Oreo base release figure would be fine.

Got some old Incredible Hulk or Amazing Spiderman CTD/GF packs lying around? Give them out and clear the shelf space for new stuff.

Maybe it needs to be a big name character. I'm not sure. I do know my local store is sitting on some IM3 and Thor 2 GF stock.

Well I always look forward to the FCBD clix. The fact that this is an entry level intro pack is actually a bit exciting to me. I imagine quite a few of the original free clix are languishing as display items or buried in the bottom of toy boxes. This is more of an intro to the game and may actually encourage people to play. If it has retail price tag tied to it then so be it. There's a lot of value there for $5. I'll ask my favorite comic shop to pre-order me one.

Very disappointing if FCBD HC starts going retail and isn't free. Sure, it's a nice gravitas for comic/ game stores for regular customers, and a good way to at least entice someone to play, or at least look into WTH this thing is. Naturally, they're not 'free' to the venues who have to buy this on top of the comics they plan to bundle & distribute, but sometimes coudl at least entice new patrons and/or new plasti-crack addicts. ;^)

Getting the FCBD figure has been a hassle over the last few years. Mostly because I'm not willing to drive as far as is needed to pick up just one figure.

That's a bummer it was free comicbook day figures that got me into heroclix. So much for them staying free.
