HeroClix Marvel Team-Up Spider-Man ThorSpider-Man and Thor is a very odd pairing. Seriously -- one is a mystical norse god, while the other is wise-cracking normal guy who happened to get bitten by a radioactive spider. Needless to say, this kind of dial can be very hard to make, but once again Eric Schaen got it right.

Spider-Man and Thor has some nice standard powers including Running Shot, Charge, Energy Explosion, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, Impervious, Toughness, Close Combat Expert, and Battle Fury... but look deep down and you have some special powers without the need of a Team Ability.

While much of the dial is very good, the beauty really lies in clicks 6, 7, and 8 -- that's where Spider-Man and Thor gets Hypersonic Speed. While it may seem like an odd Special Power to have, the original comic book cover (left) really says it all.

HeroClix Marvel Team-Up Spider-Man Thor

From wikipedia: Marvel Team-Up is the name of several American comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The series featured two or more Marvel characters in one story. The original series was published from March 1972 through February 1985, featuring Spider-Man as the lead "team-up" character in all but nine of its 150 issues; of the remainder the Human Torch and the Hulk starred in six and three issues, respectively. When cancelled, the title was replaced by Web of Spider-Man.

Since the duos first premiered long ago, Marvel team up seems a natural fir. Surprisingly, there are no duos featuring Spider-man to date.

Well its about dang time! ;)

Not a fan of duos. Just feel restrictive. I'd rather have the two solo pieces so I can run either one with whatever other characters I want to run.

As an action figure collector, I cannot tell you the number of times I have been annoyed that I had to buy a multi pack with characters I did not want in it in order to get the figure I wanted. Sometimes you can split a 2 pack or trade the unwanted pieces away.

The other thing is that splitting leaves your pieces with an action token and unable to do anything else this turn (unless I misunderstand the current ruling on these).

I know WK has not put many duos in the last few sets, but every time I see a Miracle Barda duo figure it makes me wish they had skipped that and given us a new character, like Forager.

Now I've had a chance to read this article I WANT THESE CLIX! The duo mechanic is a really nice idea but is usually poorly executed. Eric has done a great job of ensuring most powers given are actually compatible with duo attack (the whole purpose of a duo figure after all!). My favourite bits are...
1) Batter up Goldilocks: such a useful power with great synergy for a follow up duo attack next turn
2)The squabbling "I've got this" on the human torch pairing
3) The wolvie/spiderman split. I like it when Wizkids do this on the back end of a duo dial and like it just as much here too. Eric's even remembered to prevent healing past click 5!

The bits I dislike? Only 2 really
1) Is Spider-Man and Doctor Stranges special token power and defence a bit too good? Maybe just if you end your turn in a special marker should you take damage.
2) Wolverines ignore penetrating may need rewording. Does he ignore the damage completely or just the penetrating aspect (so he always uses toughness)?

Thanks both for this article and roll on some more decent Duos in clixdom!
