Our friends at ICV2.com have released the top collectible games in the 4th quarter of 2010. This is based on SALES, and guess what? HEROCLIX is the only miniatures game to make it into the top 5.
Top 5 Collectible Games Over-all -- Q4 2010
1. Magic: The Gathering TCG (#2 in Q4 2009)
2. Yu-Gih-Oh! TCG (#3 in Q4 2009)
3. Pokemon TCG (#1 in Q4 2009)
4. HeroClix (#5 in Q4 2009)
5. World of Warcraft TCG (#4 in Q4 2009)
What's really amazing is how HeroClix has climbed itself up from #5 just one year earlier. These numbers are clearly attributed to DC75th being released just a week before Christmas in 2010 (A year earlier we saw the release of Hammer of Thor in Q4 2009).
That is extremely impressive and just shows what a strong business plan NECA/Wizkids has put forth (I find it fascinating that Pokemon dropped two ranks from a year earlier).
Now let's take a look at the Hobby Games channels (that's your local gaming store rather than Wal-mart). Wizkids has done a great job focusing on this area, and it's clearly a winner for local stores.
Top 10 Hobby Channel Collectible Games -- Q4 2010
1. Magic: The Gathering (#1 in Q4 2009)
2. Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (#2 in Q4 2009)
3. HeroClix (#3 in Q4 2009)
4. World of Warcraft TCG (#4 in Q4 2009)
5. Pokemon (#6 in Q4 2009)
6. D&D Miniatures (#7 in Q4 2009)
7. Legend of the Five Rings CCG (#5 in Q4 2009)
8. Naruto CCG (#10 in Q4 2009)
9. Star Wars CMG (#8 in Q4 2009)
10. Axis & Allies (Not Listed in Q4 2009)
So it looks like the top 4 remained unchanged fromt a year earlier, which isn't a bad thing at all. HeroClix is still the only minis game in the top 5 with D&D minis nipping in at #6. This will be drastically different next year since D&D Minis and Star Wars minis has been discontinued! Who will take it's place? Probably not Monsterpocalypse, who was #9 in 2009 and dropped off completely in 2010!
Regardless, HeroClix World would like to offer a two-thumbs-up congrats to NECA/Wizkids for all their hard work and their excellent business model -- local game shops everywhere are still in business during these trying economic times, and Wizkids is part of the reason (not to mention all you excellent customers out there)!
