Pow! Batman HeroClix Strategy

Batman 001 Arkham Origins.

Usage / Summary: The Batman from the Arkham Origins set is an indoor beast. His Remote Batarang allows him to draw line of fire from any square within his range to another square within his range (which allows him to shoot around corners). His Explosive Gel ability allows him to destroy walls or blocking terrain and his Improved Movement lets him to move through it without stopping him. Added to all this goodness, he has Perplex and Outwit to support himself and his teammates.

Batman 001 Arkham Origins HeroClix Dial

Pros: Batman is a versatile close or ranged combat attacker with a nice set of support powers to assist himself and his teammates. Being a common, he's easier to get than some of the other modern age options!

Key Feature: His Remote Batarang is an amazing power that allows him to shoot around characters and terrain up to 7 squares away. With it worded as "when he makes a ranged combat attack", this allows him to use it when he uses Running Shot as well, so you can position him first then take the shot. Also, his Origins Of The Dark Knight trait allows him to use Incapacitate, and if he's KO's an opposing character this game, he can also deal his printed damage to his hit targets. 2 Ranged attacks with Incapacitate is great for crowd control.

Cons: His meager two clicks of Toughness on a 17 means you will need to keep him around those corners in hindering to protect him from retaliation. His Super Senses might help mid-dial, but with Precision Strike being on a lot of characters, this isn't something that you can always count on. His end dial Combat Reflexes brings this back up a bit.

Theme / Keywords: With his non generic keywords of Batman Family and Gotham City, it won't be hard to make a theme team with this figure. With the Batman Family ATA, he can give Friendly Characters Willpower within 8 Squares. If you build a Gotham City theme team using characters with Gotham City + Police keywords, then you can used the GCPD ATA, which allows characters with both keywords and no action tokens to move 4 squares as a free action. Unfortunately, Batman does not get the benefit of this ATA.

Cost:  At 140 points, he's a little less than half you team build in a 300 point game and does double duty as an attacker and support piece. A good value overall.

Teammates: His 3 damage could use a bit of buffing. With low point characters like Alfred or Batgirl with Perplex or Robin with his Outwit, that can help get through damage reducers or avoiders. On a GCPD team, you could benefit from the PD team ability by hiding behind them and shooting from another square at a lower defense value.

On a 300 Point Team: If you're building a 300 point team, this is a great choice. Fighting from the back lines while his teammates tie up the opposition.

On a  400+ Point Team: He's a great option for a secondary attacker that can also support his team mates.

Final Rating:  B+

In smaller point games, he's a good primary attacker, but in higher point games, he gets a secondary attacker status and there are often better options for the points when you start looking at him for this purpose.

Your Comments:
Nice article thanks Jason.

or my tastes this Batman is too squishy for a 300 point match-up. A ~100 point super-strength character could pretty much one-shot the dark knight without too much trouble.

At 400 points plus he shines as he can be built around with plenty of other figs so may be able to avoid the charging opponents and get his licks in from afar with those amazing Batarangs (Self perplex is really useful with this power so many options!)
