Avengers vs X-Men #0 ReviewIt seems like in today’s comic books superheroes battle superheroes nearly as often as they do with the super villains. With epic tales like the Civil War and World War Hulk, Marvel seems to have gotten comfortable with this formula. That doesn’t let DC off the hook either. I mean, how many more times are Batman and Superman going to throw down? When will the Teen Titans learn to just get along? But let’s face it, the reason we keep seeing superheroes slugging it out with each other is because… well, we love it (well most of the time anyway).

This time the big summer event for Marvel comes in the form of the Avengers vs. the X-Men, and what better way to begin than with issue #0 that functions as more of a primer before the story really kicks off. Issue #0 focuses more on two characters that will undoubtedly play bigger roles in the story, the Avenger’s Scarlet Witch and the X-men’s Hope Summers.

Avengers vs X-Men #0 ReviewThe first half of the book’s focus is on Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. Writer Brian Bendis scribed this story. Interestingly enough, as Bendis is the one responsible for the Scarlet witch’s current status thanks to his “Avengers Disassembled” story arch from a few years back. It seems the Scarlet Witch is attempting to find her place in the world again after being out of action for so long.

The story is ok, and it definitely gives readers who have not kept up with the Scarlet Witch’s recent developments some insight. Scarlet takes on M.o.d.o.k. and the forces of A.I.M., with some help from fellow Super-heroines, Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman. The real meat of this story happens when Ms. Marvel insists that Wanda returns to the mansion for a quick visit. Let’s just say that not everyone is willing to welcome her with open arms.

Yeah, nothing special. Just the calm before the storm.
