Yes, the ending and the new status quo it leaves Peter in are going to be controversial. But said status quo opens up plenty of interesting new storytelling avenues for several characters. And it's not something that is going to permanently destroy Spider-Man or ruin your childhood. Assuming that the new status quo will remain in place forever is like claiming that [insert character here] will stay dead forever or that Archie Comics would actually have Archie choose between Betty and Veronica. Characters always come back to life, and Archie will always flip-flop until he gets slapped with a paternity suit."
