Robert's Custom Dial MakerHave any of you ever been interested in making your own HeroClix Dials? Sure sure... we all have. Well Robert Doyle's Dial Maker for several years now, and it gives you everything you need right at your fingertips.

First things first -- make sure you create a login name. You have to login to get to the creation page. Once you're there, you're given a plethera of options for creating your own dial. Right off the bat you can see that you have a plethora of options including powers, range, points, and even keywords!

There's lots to do, so just play around!

Robert's Custom Dial Maker

This certainly may not be the sexiest of interfaces, but it's all very straight forward, and it gets the job done. But how good does it look?

Edit: A round dial is also available. See next page.

That doesn't help. Shouldn't it calculate the number of points for you? Why do I have to put everything. I could have all my stats very high and my cost points low. Explain please.

Can it also make "collossal" dials?

Posted by: David Howard on 1/13/2019 11:27:44 AM
I've tried to print out a dial on two separate computers. I've used chrome and internet explorer. In Print Preview, either the dial doesn't show up or a generic dial that I didn't design shows instead. Has anyone actually successfully printed a dial using this dial maker?

SBRUUS, try clicking the compatibility view button at the end of your web address bar. I was having a similar problem and this fixed the issue for me.

Posted by: GIJOE on 7/8/2013 9:35:02 AM
Nothing seems to work, it wont update my stats, I keep getting the error page.

Posted by: Sbruus on 6/24/2013 11:30:40 AM
I was able to print everything off just fine, after having the dail not print the first time. I found that the print options screen had "print selection" selected, I switched it to "print all" and it worked.

I hope that helps.

I really like the site, but I'm having trouble with the Dials. The cards show up fine and I can print them not problem, but the dial does not show up. It is just all 12's after making a custom. It was working for a day, but not anymore.
Anybody know what is going on?

Posted by: GJTiger on 5/10/2013 1:35:04 PM
I have some good ideas for heroclix dials. But the site never saves the powers I put on it.

Posted by: Nick on 4/21/2013 10:33:44 AM
Hey, Robert - is there an FAQ or set of instructions for your site? I'm wondering how to add more than one trait.

Posted by: Peter on 2/15/2013 10:39:56 AM
His site was hacked and I can't access to see the whole message he left there other than to check your computer if you were there recently. I don't know if it's going to get fixed or not. I think his was the only one out there too.

Posted by: thewildeman2 on 8/12/2012 5:50:30 PM
Noooooo! Please bring the site back Robert!

Posted by: Reaper on 8/1/2012 5:27:23 PM
Probably. I don't get the feeling that he checks it very often. And that kid of web attack usually happens on websites that aren't monitored.

Posted by: The Le on 8/1/2012 5:37:32 AM
wonder if robert is aware of access problem with his DIAL site last couple of days/

Printed a custom dial, but their is something wrong with the resolution everything blurs, any tips to fix this?

Posted by: Fanzon on 7/31/2012 1:33:10 PM
I love the page! It helped me make a card super easily! But I have one problem, and that is with both viewing and printing out the dial: whenever I click on "Print Dial", a new tab pops up with the dial. The only problem is that the dial it displays is not MY custom dial. The displayed dial looks like a sample dial, as all stats are 12 and the name is "MMMMMMMMM". Does anyone have a solution?

Posted by: Tasamolic on 7/26/2012 9:35:09 PM
Hay I got one problem, before I had my custom clix page saved in my history so I never had to sign in and now I can't fond the sign In spot can someone please help me

If the "flash is beast make more flashes" was meant for me then thank you for that comment

Posted by: clixmaker123 on 7/1/2012 10:24:15 PM
I am making a specialty VS the Board version of heroclix. The three dimensional board is made, I have the rules pretty well down, all I need now is a way to make a colossal clix dial and up to eight people can play through one the most well know epic plot lines in Marvel history. Please, please, please, tell me where I can custom make a colossal dial that doesn't involve scissors and and a lot of glue.

Could someone please tell me where I can find the rules for these team affiliations

Posted by: mmiller42 on 10/8/2011 9:08:54 PM
@Ryac76: HeroClix World isn't affiliated with Robert's Dial maker I'm afraid. That being said, can you tell me which Browser and Browser version you are using? I can pass that info to Robert. Thanks.

Posted by: The Le on 8/29/2011 12:19:02 PM
This thing still doesn't work for me. About 90% of the time i get an Error that says this

Invalid data for CFSQLTYPE CF_SQL_INTEGER.

Posted by: Ryac76 on 8/29/2011 12:12:58 PM
Hey gang, I have recently updated the dial output to include the most requested feature. DIAL TOPS! It took a lot of work, but it was fun to do, I hope someone can still get some use out of it. Have fun!

Posted by: Robert (urlmaker) on 8/16/2011 12:01:40 PM
@Ryac76: I'm not getting any errors on my end... but in the past I recall that I timed out a few times trying to go there. I don't think its hosted on a very powerful server, so keep trying!

Posted by: The Le on 7/26/2011 2:08:10 PM
I keep getting an error message when I click on the link?

Posted by: Ryac76 on 7/26/2011 1:55:58 PM
Could anyone please help I mod figures but do not know enough about the game to create relevant dials and cards. I was wondering if some kind person could create a few characters for me on the dial maker I will happily do a mod figure for that person and send it on to them.(Although it would be my choice of figure.)

Posted by: Daemon on 6/10/2011 1:07:09 AM
Hi there how would I make the dial into a colossal's dial, as the numbers are still normal base size but the dial itself is huge, many thanks!

Posted by: Daemon on 6/5/2011 5:35:54 AM
This is pretty good for replacing worn dials and customs. I've just started using it to convert some HorrorClix I just bought to HeroClix dials and PAC compatible powers (not too difficult, with some minor alterations). If you are into customs, really want to use other Clixs together or love to mess around, this is a great tool.

Posted by: babruzzo on 5/8/2011 5:45:26 PM
I have tried to do what is said for printing the round dial and still cannot print one.... out of all the types of file these ones are not supported on my comp.

Posted by: lord nero on 3/14/2011 12:25:03 AM
I use this dial maker all the time. I am turning my horrorclix and mage knights and heroscape figs into heroclix. my user name there is Master Hater check them out! also for a great point calculator use the one at globaldefenseforce it seems to be very accurate

Posted by: Master Hater on 9/24/2010 10:52:17 AM
Years ago I had some templates or something for photoshop. Used them to make my own LE figures. A Print Dial option would make sense here.

Posted by: kilowog27 on 8/24/2010 4:57:41 PM
Great site have used for a while. Not only for designing but to replaced worn out lables on clix, it happens. I once also got a figure with the wrong dial, never happens :P.

Highly recommend tool and great work.

I Love this program soo much and I'm glad that this article has given me a chance to thank the creator directly! Your awesome and thank you even more for the Card Creator as well, all that's missing is a dial top utility but I just cut and paste from scans of existing dials (I use Irfanview to do my editing)

Posted by: jowenr2 on 8/23/2010 8:42:29 PM
Oh, and I almost forgot, thanks to The Le for putting the site up on Heroclix World, great site yourself! Oh, and I totally agree on the lack of sexiness on the form entry screen. I should work on that! ;)

Posted by: Robert (urlmaker) on 8/23/2010 11:04:07 AM
There was a limitation in flash at the time I made the Dial Maker site that prevented 'exact size printing' so I have had work-around listings in the help file for years. I do have flash CS3 now, so I will try to go back and see if exact size printing is improved. It would be the big thing I have ALWAYS wanted to cross off the list. The best work around I think Wyldstar (realms handle) came up with was in IE you could print the dial at 19% in your printer scaling options.

The other 2 most requested items have always been "Dial top printing" and "Big fig dials". The third is “point values”.

Dial top wasn't completed because of a technical limitation. I couldn't get a dynamically filled curved name on the dial top (at least that I knew how to do). I will go back to CS3 and see if this is available. There is a lot of grunt work on sending data from the database to the flash, so time is second reason dial tops weren't completed.

Time, or more accurately patients, is the main reason I have never done a "Big fig dial". That 12 click dial in flash was a lot of work (time and frustration, it's all manual). I never wanted to do that again. :)

As for point totals, there are a few things. One, I wouldn’t know where to start. Retardog (realms handle) did a point generator back in the day and it was probably a bit over 50% accurate. He stopped maintaining it and even the somewhat accurate sheet became dated. (and he had spent a TON of time on that) Today that formula is completely irrelevant and with a VARIABLE power slot, it is senseless since you have to recost every time you create a new power. Two, if I had the actual formula, I wouldn’t use it since it is Wizkids intellectual property and probably the main reason the Dial Maker hasn’t been asked to cease and desist.

From 2003 to today, 7882 owners have entered 49713 dials into the Dial Maker site. The site costs a bit over 100 bucks a year to keep up and has always simply been a hobby site. (no commercial UR

It would be so cool to have Spider-Ham in clix, so funny!!! An animal team built with characters like: Ch'p, Kripto, Bubastis, Rocket Raccoon, Lockjaw, etc. But to be honest, I wouldn't include a Spider-Ham with a cost of 150pts. A little bit cheaper would be nice!

Posted by: JasonCR on 8/23/2010 10:30:14 AM
Been using this for a long time. what i want is a place that can make the top of the dials. also be sweet if this place would calculate the point cost.

Posted by: John White on 8/23/2010 7:18:00 AM
The dial maker DOES make round dials to print. On the creation page, look for an option that says "View Dial", click it. It will show you a round dial with all your stats, simply save a screen shot of the dial and open it in Paint. Crop the picture as close to the dial as you can and save the pic. Then just open it in Photoshop (or similar program) reduce the size and print. Lenghty, but I know it works, I've made upwards of 70 dials with this site.

Posted by: Thearthandyman on 8/23/2010 5:44:47 AM
Exactly what I'd really like. I've been looking everywhere for something that will print out the round dial to put on the actual clix. Oh well hopefully that will be added at some point.

Posted by: Thundercat on 8/23/2010 3:04:43 AM
I was expecting something that would actually make a round dial you could print out...
