#3 STAR HUNTER

Issue #237
Cover Artists: Jackson Guice, Bob Layton

From Marvel Wikia:
"Someone — or something — has killed the scientists in NASA's space lab. After making a deal with some government agents to wipe out any lawsuits against Stark Enterprises due to Iron Man's actions in the Armor Wars, Tony dons his armor and a special space attachment, then blasts to NASA's space lab. After finding their corpses and a lot of floating blood, Iron man pokes around until he finds out an experiment to create a genetic mutation based "satellite killer" got loose and went off to destroy other satellites, since no one yet told it which ones to destroy.

Even worse, the thing has made its home in the old Stark Space Station sabotaged by A.I.M. weeks ago! Iron man must face inner demons and a genetic monster while all the while learning its intelligent and it's been playing games with him! It finally takes restoring oxygen to one room that he and the thing are in, activating an aneurobic plague that kills the monster. As it dies, it asks iron man why he killed it. Iron Man tells it that it killed so many people, and before the monster dies, it claims it was its job to kill.

Realizing it was the government that was actually to blame for the monster's blood lust, Tony Stark finishes his end of the bargain with the government, only to be double-crossed, but is still granted wipe out of the law suits when he threatens to expose the government's "satellite killer."

Your Comments:
I think people would've been less disappointed if you'd called it "top 10 Iron Man covers I paid less than $3 for." I can pick 10 better covers out of Tales of Suspense alone.

I think you made a lot of great picks. Demon in a Bottle is my favorite, but none of us would come up with identical lists. Practically any of your choices would be vying for 2nd on my list. Great job!

@ Le....

No problem man, I understand.

Any ways those links I posted all work and they show the covers I am referring to. But all covers are from the early 100's of Invincible Iron Man.

@SeekerMuadib: LOL! HeroClix World is not a forum! I actually disable links right now because it avoids a lot of spam problems! But I will take your suggestion under advisement. In the meantime, I hope you like the new AJAX controlled comment-posting system!

Ugh...sorry I was hoping those would appear as links to click on to view the image.

Forum fail.

My absolute favorite cover of all time of Iron Man. It just shows Tonies vulnerability.
http://marvel.com/comics/issue/9348/iron_man_1968_118

For me this is the iconic image of Iron Man that I grew up with.

Just a personal favroite with Spymaster ripping the armor apart with his nunchuks.
http://marvel.wikia.com/Iron_Man_Vol_1_117

I liked this one becauyse it shows the strength Tony has while in the armor. Most covers show him shooting something or flying. Simple I liked seeing him bending the barrle like this.
http://marvel.wikia.com/Iron_Man_Vol_1_121

And lastly.....it is a huge part of Tonies past and is still to this day talked about or mentioned.

Yes all of these are from a certain time period in Tonyies history. But this was the era of Iron Man that I grew up on. So yes to me these are some of the more memorable comic book covers to me. I am sure all of you can toss in plenty more of your own.

I agree with you guys. Loads of great covers out there. Even if this list was only restricted to vol 1 there are still plenty of alternatives!
Iron Man 3 wasn't that bad!

I'm with JokerShark on this one. With all the possible covers I would have thought at least one Hulk, Thor, Cap, Hawkeye or another Avenger. And really no "Demon in a Bottle" cover? They made a statue of it, but not worthy of a cover?

Posted by: ShawnBesaw on 5/14/2013 2:29:59 PM
Either Iron Man comics have some of the worst cover artists in comics, or that was just a pretty lame list.. No Mandarin? No Titanium Man? No War Machine? I could probably pick a number at random and come up with some better cover issues.. Sorry Iron Man, but it looks like your cover art is as bad as your movie sequels
