HeroClix Star TrekWIZKIDS/NECA ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH CBS CONSUMER PRODUCTS TO DEVELOP STAR TREK® GAMES

[Jun 8, 2010]
(Hillside, NJ) – WizKids/NECA and CBS Consumer Products today announced that they have entered into an agreement wherein WizKids/NECA will create HeroClix branded games to be sold both physically and digitally, set in the Star Trek universe, including all of the Star Trek television shows and Star Trek feature films.

Star Trek changed the way people think about the future,” said WizKids/NECA President Lax Chandra. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to marry our innovative game design and exceptional miniatures with the incredibly rich Star Trek franchise. We believe HeroClix and the Star Trek Universe are ideally suited for cooperative gaming and table top miniature simulation and will speak to gamers in a new and compelling way.”

The first WizKids/NECA Star Trek game will release around Christmas, 2010 with additional expansions to follow.

About WizKids/NECA:

A wholly owned subsidiary of the National Entertainment Collectibles Association Inc. (NECA), WizKids/NECA is a New Jersey-based game developer and publisher dedicated to creating games driven by imagination. The HeroClix brand is the most successful collectible miniatures games on the market today, with over 250 million miniature game figures sold worldwide. Clarification from Wizkids Justin Ziran: "There will be a number of games - Spaceship based clix combat game, not compatible with HC & a self contained co-operative game with clix elements through out."

Just a side note: this sounds an awful lot like my previous article, DreamClix: Star Trek!

Your Comments:
wow looks awesome the sculpts look cool and me and my dad are big star treck fans so we thiink its a exellent idea also though they are old star treck characters also Apparently the semi-official word (I've seen it referenced as official but without citation) elsewhere is that they won't in any way be compatible with Heroclix, which effectively ends my interest. I certainly understand the ship element being its own affair, but I wasn't interested in the Pirates or Star Wars constructable models games and I wouldn't care any more for a Star Trek ship game even if the ships were on clickable bases. If there are to be Star Fleet, Klingons, etc. on clix bases I would want them 100% compatible with Heroclix. It's not a terrible bit of news, though, as it wasn't as if I needed any more product to drain away cash anyway. :)I couldn't agree more with Friendly Neighborhood Super Soldier... I would without question buy Star Trek Heroclix, but unfortunately as these are completely non-compatible board game pieces I will definately not be buying them.

Heroclix and D&D are my two games of choice and I just can't afford to spend money on a random board game that isn't compatible with one of those two games.

Now if we could get actual (100% compatible) Heroclix of Klingon warriors, Borg drones, Jem'Hadar, Orion Pirates, Federation Security Officers, etc. (just as examples) then I would most definately buy them and play them right alongside my super-heroes, Spartans, Gears, Street Fighters, etc.Even as a trekkie and starship mini collector this is a pass. Holding out some hope on the starship game coming out in a few more months but only to see the mini's..... Still believed they missed the boat on a starship game with crew as modifiers in a collectible realm. Maybe on a clearance for the figs to make my own game. Have to look up this game designer to see what else he made.....

Just to pricey.....
Wished they did collectible series....

I hope that their next project is to make a set using character's from the real Star Trek series that is compatable with Heroclix.

Posted by: Friendly Neighborhood Super Soldier on 6/17/2011 9:03:47 AM
i think they should have kept this project simple because with the right models i may make up my own missions!!

Posted by: das on 6/7/2011 11:11:00 AM
Eehhh... maybe?

Tried that co-op board of LOTR; convinced my son to watch the triology when past efforts failed. Need to work on discretionary income issue...

Wow, very disappointed. I've never played HeroClix, but I was hoping this would be like an actual miniatures game (like Axis and Allies minis)... I suppose I'd get these because I do enjoy these types of games as well, but not what I was hoping for from the star trek world.

Posted by: John Locke on 1/13/2011 1:57:17 AM
I hate Reiner's games. Huge disappointment. I hate Reiner's games. I wanted a starship battle game. Did I mention that I hate Reiner's games?

Well a couple of points here.
1) this is a board game pure and simple.
2) I have had me fill of those for the moment thank you.
3) JJ Abrahms is working on a Star Trek Sequel while Super 8 goes into post production. Something like Star Trek: Vulcanian Vengeance.
4) Neca would definitely want this out before a Star Trek sequel so you can see the rush.
5) Neca would not want people to confuse this with anything Classic of which there is hundreds of items so best to stick to the most recent film franchise.
6) If you like Starfleet battles then play starfleet battles this is definitely not Starfleet Battles. It's something new.
7) If you are a new Star Trek Fan and you want something new this is for you.
*8) my brother is TNG so it's not for him.

Sorry wont be buying it. Rather spend my money on heroclix.

I agree with Wombatboy, I would have preferred WK/NECA use the OS Enterprise and crew, not the 2009 movie version, but I understand WK/NECA wanted to capture the younger crowds. Us old-time Trekkers are not an expanding market.

Posted by: Hodak on 1/6/2011 8:24:22 AM
Ugh. The worst thing is that they chose the 2009 movie versions of the ships and characters instead of the classic TV series versions. That Enterprise is all bloated and deformed where the original was sleek and cool. Just terrible.

Posted by: Wombatboy on 1/6/2011 12:14:45 AM
Well i was excited for a minute...... but now, not so much. Kinda lame. I was hoping for more of a heroclix type game play, but with aliens and phaser blasts! That would be great..... hopefully the dials translate over or something.

Posted by: David on 1/5/2011 9:48:49 PM
Not excited at all!!!(if that's true) I better save my money for Giant Sized X-Men...THAT IS COOL!!!!

Posted by: JasonCR on 1/5/2011 9:35:53 PM
not collectable?? they made a big mistake there! guess they could do expansions etc for other star trek series, and expansions of the missions and locations etc. looks fun and yet expensive

Posted by: elliott on 1/5/2011 6:46:16 PM
Sounds way too confusing, and sucks that it can only be played with 4 people.

Posted by: mr.munn23 on 1/5/2011 3:57:00 PM
Has someone saw the price for this set yet? I'm undecided for myself, but my daughters father in law is a diehard trekkie and his birthday is in April.

Posted by: Nightwing-fan on 1/5/2011 1:50:07 PM
It is not compatible with Heroclix and is a Stand Alone Game. No boosters or other materials required. More like a "boardgame"

Posted by: Rick on 1/5/2011 1:15:24 PM
I doubt it will just be ships on clix bases. Star Trek is more about the charaters and how they interact. Clix based ships will be excellent, but without the charaters behind them I do not see how it can sell (even to us hardcore Trekies).

Posted by: slammer on 7/2/2010 6:32:12 PM
Ships? Characters? Or Both?

Posted by: Bobby on 6/16/2010 1:58:32 AM
It is unlikely that Star Trek Clix is compatible with the current HeroClix, which is a good thing. There are plenty of Star Trek fans that will get into this, espeically old-school Star Fleet Battles groupies... which includes me. We Trek fans are willing to pay top dollar for a decent Trek game, and I have faith that Wizkids will deliver!

Posted by: The Le on 6/9/2010 11:41:32 AM
I only hope its compatable with hero clix. but i think we all know better than that unless neka learned from the whiz kids mistakes.

Posted by: inspired stranger on 6/9/2010 11:22:59 AM
I'll probably only get it if it's released in an "Action pack" theme packaging.

Posted by: Ianator on 6/8/2010 10:34:56 PM
Please tell me this is another sick joke like the Disney Clix April Fools thing (which is honestly a better idea). Pretty please...

Posted by: DarthRuss on 6/8/2010 8:00:48 PM
Not heroclix? Ehhhh...

Posted by: Lord Logan on 6/8/2010 3:58:18 PM
Wait... to be sold physically and digitally? oy vey.

Posted by: FHiL on 6/8/2010 3:06:44 PM

So, it's not clear if this will be miniatures of bipeds or ships. My first foray into gaming was FASA's Star Trek III Starship Combat Tactical Simulator. If it's ships I'm all in! If it's compatible with Heroclix, I'd like to see it, but I'm sure I'll buy them. :) The best game would be something like Battlestations by Gorilla Board Games. In that one, there are multiple maps: one for the space battle and more to represent what is going on inside the ship (moving from station to station on the bridge, battling boarding parties, and running to the weapons console or airlock to launch shuttles/fighters.

Posted by: ninthdoc on 6/8/2010 11:37:28 AM

I hope they learned from the past and make every expansion 100% compatible from here on out. Not doing so is what killed the original Wizkids. Too many games that couldn't be played together. I hope this means we will see Star Wars one day.

Posted by: Jason on 6/8/2010 10:49:57 AM
I can really see a clix based ship combat game working - depending on the exact rules of course.

I really don't see how they could provide heroclix compatibility but perhaps an action pack or two just for fun?

Posted by: Phyl on 6/8/2010 10:30:50 AM
While I understand that some, thinking in terms of venue play and unwanted mixing, may not want it to be Heroclix compatible I'm fine with it. Indeed, if it's NOT 100% compatible the likelihood that I'd buy into it would plummet.

Looking at them as a series of characters - ignoring most ship-based combat elements - I'm not seeing a need for an overhaul of Clix mechanics to adapt it to Trek.

Posted by: Miraclo on 6/8/2010 10:29:11 AM
Excellent! Spock and Batman on the same HeroClix team! ;)

Posted by: Bat-Phreak on 6/8/2010 10:27:21 AM
Now Kirk can fight Picard. Poor Jon Luc.

Wow. I need to get a Picard. No, screw Picard, I want Spock!
