HeroClix TabApp SpoilersHillside, N.J. & Cary, N.C.—May 14, 2012—Leading entertainment conglomerate, National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) alongside game creators Wizkids and Icarus Studios, wholly-owned subsidiaries of NECA, today unveiled HeroClix TabApp™, an upcoming action-based iPad game, and the first in the TabApp™ series, integrating physical miniature toys with digital arenas. HeroClix TabApp™ is set for release this fall.

Featuring real-time combat, HeroClix TabApp™ integrates NECA's vast array of licenses to bring popular characters commonly featured in NECA’s product lines to the game.

To play, physical miniatures are placed on the iPad device, the “digital game board.” Utilizing Icarus Studio’s xScape Platform figure recognition technology, exclusive content and game maps are unlocked based on the miniature selected. With a swipe of a finger players can move along the virtual board and take part in high-action battles against a multitude of evil villains.

Game Features Include:
•One dozen physical super hero miniatures
•50+ virtual enemy figures
•Over two dozen digital maps
•Real-time combat

“Technology is changing the way in which consumers interact with toys and collectibles,” said Joel Weinshanker, President and COO at NECA.  “TabApp™ takes gaming to the next level, offering players an all new way to experience their favorite collectibles, toys and games in a portable (digital) format that fits their lifestyle.

HeroClix TabApp™ is slated for release this October and will be available for iPad devices free from the iTunes store. Physical miniatures will be available at participating hobby and comic shop retailers.

Your Comments:
I spotted the 3 packs on clearance at a local store. They had the three pack of TabApps for $2.00 a piece. They had the X-Men, Avengers, Batman, and Justice League folks for a nice quick variety.

Since these have the wheels of HeroClix, will they work with other Clix figures away from the app? I don't know why I need these chibi looking versions of the heroes, but for 3 for $2.00 I might as well if I can use them.

I am totaly disapointed about this game. It is a nice app, but why has it Heroclix in its name? Heroclix is a strategy game, (chess with superpowers) and the tabapp is shoot 'em up game.
So the name is a fraud and the game a ripoff. Don't get me wrong. The app is free, but the miniatures cost roughly twice the price of a normal fast forces set. So watch out, what you are buying. Last time with heroclix online NECA tried to sell some pixels for the same price as a real figure and now this...

A really amazing and pretty much perfect Superman dial....and it's on this product. Way to get devious with pushing a product you know few will ever want. Bravo Wizkids, bravo.

@Johnwhite: The game, for Heroclix players feels like a fail, sure. But to my 4 year-old, who comes with me to watch/"play" Heroclix, this is the best thing since Netflix on my cellphone.

This game is fail, and a complete disaster.

Posted by: Johnwhite toledo on 10/2/2012 10:18:09 AM
This game looks like a good way to scratch up your iPad....

Posted by: James on 9/19/2012 4:32:34 PM
@Preacher13. They've been talking about TabApp for awhile now. It was advertised as being for kids so the sculpts don't surprise me too much. It's not as bad as being a Super
Hero Squad style at least.

Posted by: ChronoFett on 9/12/2012 5:44:35 PM
It's not April, so I'm assuming this isn't a joke?

Posted by: Preacher13 on 9/12/2012 3:34:09 PM
@Top10. Yeah, that reads right. Start your turn adjacent and then that character should be able to run away. This would be awesome for a character with a good RS or PW.

Posted by: ChronoFett on 9/12/2012 2:40:35 PM
I am going to get these for sure.
At first my favorite was Captain America b/c of his Vibranium Shield trait. The trait is aweseome but you do need to declare a figure at the beginning of your turn which makes it a little nerfed (nerfing is OK).
You can't have a figure run back to Capt America for some added protection during your turn. This makes me want to give him more of a constant companion.
However, couldn't an adjacent friendly figure be given ESD and THEN move away from CAPT. And they would still have ESD????

Nowhere does it say they need to remain adjacent.

I like the dials but I don't like the super deformed looks (cute as they may be...). I'll probably buy two sets of each and rebase with their Heroclix counterparts (maybe I'll keep the Cyclops one...).

BTW why does Wolverine have a range of 4???

Posted by: phep on 9/11/2012 8:24:26 PM
Just played the demo and sorry ut no thanks, it's not even a heroclix game it's a tap attack mash me up game, and all the figures are very big, but some of the dials are sweet.

Posted by: GLprime on 9/11/2012 12:35:43 PM
Those TabApp figs are sweet!!! And not only is that Cyclops dial the best one ever so is that sculpt! If I had to have any of the clix from the TabApp heroclix shown it would be Cyclops. Awesome!

Posted by: rwint1968 on 9/11/2012 12:19:14 PM
"Wolverine is pretty overrated" how and why????

Posted by: mario on 8/20/2012 2:09:30 PM
i am pretty sure these are the only useable figures as this is geared more towards younger audiences; i think they look awesome though! lol id love to throw that cyclops into my X-men team; alternate my little pony universe!!! =P

Posted by: trevlor on 8/19/2012 6:31:28 AM
Very excited about this! Mostly because anything in "video game" format my 7 yr. old would want to play, and I would love for him to get into Heroclix.
One imperfection I can see is that it seems like the figs are not scaled to conform to "normal" size Heroclix figs. Maybe to differentiate the two when actually playing on tabletop and tablet. Looks like "Super Hero Squad" figs, in a different scale... but I like it too! Thanks for sharing The Le!

@ John & Gl888
Looks like a mini set in a gravity feed stlye as it mentions "12 phsical figures". Presumably these will have one of those square barcode thingys on the bottom of the base that your phones camera can read. The villains you play against will just be sprites, no physical figure.
Who knows if it takes off maybe you'll just be able to photograph any clix and recognition software will know their stats. That's probably a long way off though!

Posted by: Mantis Warior on 5/17/2012 8:11:56 AM
does anyone know what search would pull up somthing similar, like the one for d&d mentioned below? or the nak=me of similar mini software?

Posted by: apov1 on 5/16/2012 9:09:45 AM
Those versions of Captain America, Ironman and Cyclops look different from the usual HC figures....I wonder if there will be another physical set released just for the app..

Posted by: John on 5/16/2012 5:47:17 AM
im confused... does the app come with the figures or do you use your own?

Posted by: gl888 on 5/15/2012 2:52:35 PM
Gosh... I can't wait for this!

Posted by: Ianator73 on 5/15/2012 12:31:56 PM
Now this I will get into... We have a family ipad the 4 of us all share. Now it's time to get my own, lol!

Posted by: Ianator73 on 5/15/2012 10:49:01 AM
Interesting, and potentially promising. Desperately needs an Android version, though. Releasing Ipad only will severely limit their market.

Posted by: haoyong on 5/15/2012 10:27:23 AM
oh my good gracious. i have been avoiding getting an ipad for ages, but i guess i need one now.

Posted by: TUSKS on 5/15/2012 8:28:02 AM
I've seen dungeons and dragons apps like this before. Pretty cool clix finally gets in on it.
