HeroClix Rules Changes 2011There are big changes coming to HeroClix Rules, and they all take effect May 1st 2011. Over on the official WizkidsGames.com you can read new articles describing those changes in detail. Here at HeroClix World we've create this summary of changes spoilers section, which is basically a summary of those articles. This will make it easier to read it all in one places. We'll keep it updated as needed.

CANCELING (GENERAL)
Currently you can cancel your own power or team ability on your turn, and it returns at then end of your turn. This is particularly handy if you have a character with Willpower and want to cancel it in order to take push damage (example, Monica Rambeau can cancel her Willpower in order to push to a better click!)

The NEW rules will remove CANCELING altogether. You simply can't do it.

CANCELING (STEALTH)
The ability to CANCEL (see above) was useful for Stealth characters, because you need to CANCEL your own Stealth in order for your allies to use Probability Control or Perplex on it. With CANCEL being removed, they will have to reword this ability. From WizkidsGames.com: "Stealth is now a power that only prevents hindered lines of fire on your opponent’s turns, not on your own turn"

I suspect they'll also need to modify Charge (which allows you to ignore knockback unless you cancel it), and a few other powers.

FREE ACTIONS
No need to say "Once per turn" anymore for free actions. If your character can use Outwit and Perplex, both of which are Free Actions, then that character can use each on your turn, once per turn. This will make the current Powers and Abilities Card a little smaller, and will help clarify feats like NANOBOTS -- currently you can use that feat multiple times per turn since it is a free action; in the NEW ruling all free actions can be done only once per turn... (unless otherwise specified).

From WizkidsGames.com: "A character may not activate the same game effect twice in one turn with free actions, unless the game effect indicates otherwise...  If a character had 2 game effects that each allowed them to use the same power or ability, they would still be able to use it more than once. "

DOUBLE POWER ACTIONS
This is a pretty interesting change. Just remember that a Power Action is still a Power Action. So if something prevents you from using a Power Action, then it also prevents you from using a Double Power Action.

From WizkidsGames.com: "To use a double power action, your character would need to be cleared (no tokens assigned). As you resolve a double power action, instead of giving the character one action token, you’d give it two, instead. These tokens would deal pushing damage normally....

Example: "Super Splash: Give Gidget a double power action when she occupies water terrain. She can use Quake as a free action and deals penetrating damage."

WILD CARDS / MULTIPLE FREE ACTION
New rules specify that Wild-Card-Usage is a Free Action. However, Wild Cards is a special ability that allows multiple Free Actions per turn. So you can still use your Wild Card multiple times in your turn. HOWEVER, you can no longer use it during your opponent's turn!

Your Comments:
@Drummy: The new wording for Phasing is: "Give this character a move action and move it up to its speed value. It ignores the effects of characters and terrain on movement."

That last sentence is important because that means free breakaway!

Question; in the new wording for phase/teleport it no longer says "automatically breaks away", is this because that is an accepted characteristic of the ability, or is break away now required in order to use phase/teleport when based with an opposing character?

Posted by: drummy on 6/6/2011 8:10:05 PM
It isn't you speed value that is reduced, it is your range.

i didnt see anything on not giving them an action token for probability control, anyone want to chime in on this?

if so then:

while resting a character since i dont take an action, i can rest and have them prob?

does this count into my total actions per turn?

With the restirctive limit on how many figures are needed for Themed Teams, I almost hope they bring back Mutant and Psychic. Not taking an Action Token for using the theme Prob is alright, but I think I'm not going to like these (Theme Team) changes.

Well they need to fix stealth, it is just simply too overpowered and overplayed. at my venue there are a few players who ONLY use stealthed characters such as the new deadpool or any of the x force, and although they never win (their teams are too finite in their power range) if any of the veteran players have anything to say about it, it is still overpowered in ability.

you are forcing me to not only get up close to the characters that are obviously melee oriented, but i cant even run in, outwit, and then shoot? your telling me that with the LE deadpool i have to deal with a 19 defense in stealth? wolfsbane with a 19 shapechange, and if im correct ALSO supersenses?! and dont even get me started on the infamous nightcrawler?

I hate the new rules for the themed teams having to have 6 figs on a generic team at 400 pts. to count as a themed team is nuts. the themed teams seem like to be any use now need to only be played at the 300 point increments (300, 600, 900, ect.) I just see less themed teams showing up now and back to what are the most powerful things I can get on the table its a shame to see the themes basically go away.

I like where they are going with these. So far it seems like alot of clean up. Hopefully they will have rules that let me put down an object I'm carrying without breaking it or tk.

Not sure I will like theese changes. but hey.. i just love the game, and can always play by the old rules at home.

That's a fair amount of information to digest... Thanks for breaking the news, The.
