Your Comments:
@LE
To be honest, I never see the Gauntlet anymore. The Utility Belt was cheaper and the Book is faster to use. No one I know has the Ring stand or the Phoenix Force, so I cannot judge them.

It seems to be the hammers which get the most use where I am.

Its hard for me to do a "who needs a remake" vs who needs a first figure ever. I am often baffled by the "Fan Vote" winner which is usually a character we already have. That said, to me the biggest needed remake is:

Plastic Man.

That's it. Just Plastic Man. The version in the JL set from a number of years ago is good, but I think so many of the new standard powers would fit him very well.

Plastic Man - think of this as Plas during his JLA membership, late 90's to early 2000's. Morrison, Waid, Kelly.

Traits: Plasticity. Shape Change.
Improved: Movement: ignores elevated [RED].
Movement: Wait, You Thought I Was Over There? (Side Step).
Attack: I Got Past Your Armor (Precision Strike).
Defense: I Survived for 3000 Years as Molecules at the Bottom of the Ocean (Invincible).
Defense: Rubber Skin (Toughness).
Damage: My Actions Confuse You (Perplex, but only usable to reduce values on opposing characters).
Damage: Giant Fist (Close Combat Expert).
Damage: I'm So Crazy Martian Manhunter Cannot Read My Mind (Battle Fury).

Some characters that desperately need a remake are:

MARVEL
Radioactive Man-Thunderbolts keyword.
Doctor Octopus
Sand Man
Carnage
Sunfire

DC
Metallo

Current Sets:

M10 Marvel 10th Anniversary
DC10 DC 10th Anniversary
BM Batman
SOG Streets of Gotham
ASM Amazing Spider-man
TT Teen Titans
WatX Wolverine and the X-Men
IM3 Iron Man 3 movie set
Superman movie set
IIM Invincible Iron Man
SLOSH Superman and the Legion
DP Deadpool

Alpha Flight is heavily featured in Invincible Iron Man. Included are at least commons Puck, Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, uncommons Snowbird, Sasquatch, super rare Shaman. There is also a white version of Sasquatch which is the uncommon prime of the set. The gravity feed for IIM also includes alternate dial versions of Puck, Guardian, Northstar, Aurora. The 001 Wolverine from WatX also has the Alpha Flight keyword and works nicely with them.

I been out of the game for awhile, so can someone tell me which Alpha Flight characters and sets can still be used in tournaments?

Once again, I find the looming retirement making me reach for pieces about to go.

Last week: Gotham City featuring
SM Superman Beyond
JL52 FF Batman
SOG Question.

This week: Mystic
SM Swamp Thing
JL52 Constantine
JL52 Zatanna or DC10 Blue Beetle (Jamie)

Funny thing about this. Well, interesting to me anyway. Its making me go back and use pieces from those sets when building teams.

Last week I ran a Justice League Dark team, mostly from JL nu52 for the first time ever. This week I am running a JSA team from Superman and DC10th.

DC10th Lex uses kryptonite pieces, which are from Superman. Does that mean you cannot use his placement of kryptonite ability anymore?

Posted by: superfriend on 6/5/2014 10:34:10 AM
The only green hulk I can find that will still be modern is 10th aniversary. Also, I overlooked the 10th aniversary things and angrir. So there is one member of FF left.

Posted by: JustJim on 6/5/2014 8:48:15 AM
so what green hulks do we have left ?

Posted by: jwm2567 on 6/5/2014 8:21:12 AM
Agreed we are in need of new Fantastic 4! Plastic & Elongated Man are well over due!!

We will need a new Silver Surfer now too! I hope Wizkids can do him right and make him the powerhouse he should be but not overcosted. Would also love to see a Dark Silver Surfer with Gaunlet. Thant would be my ultimate want.

We also need a new Omega Red. I thought for sure he would show up in Deadpool with all the Weapon X stuff.

On a side note does anyone know what happened to the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends team base? When is that ever coming out? Iceman is my all time fav character and that one is actually playable unlike all other versions of him.

One last thing about retirement. Do people expect the 2ndary demand and therefore cost of SRs and Chases to come down?

The reason I ask is that I've never gotten a Hulked Out Hero chase from the Incredible Hulk set. Do you think retirement will make the prices of these pieces go down?

Top wants: IH Ghost Rider, IH Winter Hulk or Ice Hulk (if I get to choose which chase), GG Silver Surfer Keeper, CW Hawkeye Mockingbird duo.

If you've seen some of my comments before on remakes of characters, you know my opinion is that characters should get retired before remade instead of made again sooner in anticipation of retirement.

I really feel that the Oreo Era / Age was a new beginning because I started playing again about the time Incredible Hulk was released and got a lot of Superman right away then too. I had stopped when the game ended after Arkham Asylum. I almost never reach back to a set before Superman unless there is a character I desperately need for a theme.

In that vein, I out forward the following as needing new versions, especially in light of the group rotated out and I encourage others to add their own.

1. Plastic Man (DC). Our last version was in JL. I think he would be great with the new powers Side Step, Precision Strike and possibly Invincible. Writers Morrison and Kelly did a great job showing what he can do and why he belonged in the Justice League.

2. Elongated Man (DC). My hopes are he gets a new piece in the upcoming Flash set. EM's last version was in Collateral Damage, before the carded era.

3. Fantastic Four, especially the Human Torch (Marvel). The other 3 got Future Foundation versions as LEs in the Chaos War OP kit, and 2 were SRs in GG. Its time for easier to get versions. Let's make them all uncommons in their next appearance.

Posted by: superfriend on 6/5/2014 7:16:10 AM
Agreed oreo bases should not be retired just yet. Go ahead and retire resource but leave the characters for team building.

Not too worried about losing Hulk and Galactic Guardians as there's always M10A for a Hulk and the new Guarduians set will give us more GotGs for modern. Surprised to see Chaos War go though. It doesn't seem that old to me and as Superfriend has pointed out basicaly contains all the Avengers, real A-listers.

I'm hoping JustJim's comment proves to be prophetic and that a Fantastic 4 set will be the next Marvel one to be announced.

Posted by: Mantis Warrior on 6/5/2014 5:28:21 AM
I knew Superman and Hulk were on their way out, but losing New 52 and Chaos War hurts.

Both Supermen from New 52 are fun to play, and the fast forces Wonder Woman that can charge after being carried is one of my favorites for Justice League.

Chaos War, on the other hand, is full of mainstays for me. Egghead, Donald Blake, Speed, Sharon Carter, Wolverine, Tigra, Doom & Kang are all characters I go back to on a regular basis.

Also, unless I've missed something, this means that the Fantastic Four will be completely out of modern.

Posted by: JustJim on 6/5/2014 4:27:18 AM
I have to say I loved those Micro-Sets and am sorry to see the JLD go away. That sets FF also had my favorite Superman of all time in it (ping pong supes).

Good thing DC10 chases are still Modern with all the Lantern love we are getting.

Posted by: AndrewDrexler on 6/4/2014 1:18:13 PM
I agree I hate to see any Oreo base figs to be retired. Like you said they just seem to fizzle out anyway but it would be nice to have the option to use in Modern when wanted.

Posted by: AWESwanky on 6/4/2014 10:33:40 AM
This round of retirement hurts theme teams in so many ways the pain is difficult to describe.

Superman means the LSH members from that set (9 I think) will no longer available to play with the ones in SLOSH.

Galactic Guardians means the Guardians of the Galaxy characters in that set will never be available to play with the new ones coming in the Guardians of the Galaxy set which comes out in August.

Justice League New 52 means we lose all of JL Dark and all the non main 7 nu52 JL members like Green Arrow and Firestorm.

Chaos War means a ton of 2ndary Avengers are out of modern play.

Finally, the FF War of Light means the leaders of the Lantern corps are out of modern play and you HAVE to win the WOL events to get new ones to play in modern.

To be honest, I think a lot of retirement happens naturally. When I go to tournaments I rarely see older figures in play. Last night I stopped by a game and saw the Iron Fist, Luke Cage duo from Secret Invasion being used in a game which allowed any carded figure. But that was the only non-Modern age piece among 8 teams. New mechanics tend to make the older pieces obsolete. They called this "any carded figure" event "Silver Age".

I have a new name, for all the stuff above and what is still modern after July 1. The Oreo Age. And I am sad to see some of it retired.

No more Infinity Guantlet is nice but there is still the just as broken Batman Utility Belt.
