HeroClix ID Rings Kickstarter08-15-2012 UPDATE: Only a couple hours left, and they're 200% Funded! Looks like they're doing one last stretch goal, to give away 2x2 rings! Check it Out Now before it's too late!

08-06-2012 UPDATE: This project is almost 150% funded. If it reaches that level, the project lead promises DOUBLE-BASED (peanut) ID Rings too! so Check it Out Now before it's too late (And please make sure you look at the "UPDATES" tab)

08-01-2012 UPDATE: This project has been fully funded! It doesn't end for 2 more weeks, so Check it Out Now to become a sponsor and get your free goodies! (note: while viewing that page, please make sure you click the "UPDATES" tab to read up on new news)

It always amazes me how creative and smart the HeroClix player base is. Just take a look at this new Kickstarter project, the ID rings for "oreo base" HeroClix figures project. After someone showed us this kickstarter, we couldn't wait to become a backer, and you should too. Here's what you need to know.

What are ID Rings?
ID Rings are basically a way for you identify your figures on the battlefiend. I've used them extensively in pre-oreo-dial days, and they were great. Having all of your figures with one standard base color simply looks great. It's especially useful when both you and your opponent are using the same figures on your force.

Why kickstarter?
Clearly there's a need for new ID Rings because the old rings won't work on the new OREO bases. It's nice to see someone willing to bite the big one to get it done. I am always pleased to see people take initiative rather than just stand around and talk.

HeroClix ID Rings KickstarterWill I get charged?
Only if the kickstarter is funded. From the main page, it looks like the funding level is set at $3,000, which is a very reasonable amount in my opinion. Take a look at the different pledge levels (at the right of that page) and pledge the amount you are comfortable with -- I think the $10+ levels are the best.

Here's the important part... IF the minimum funding level is achieved, then Kickstarter will charge you based on your pledge level. That's all. If the funding level isn't achieved, NOTHING HAPPENS. You don't get charged, and the Kickstarter project is considered "unfunded."

Disclaimer
Heroclix World is not affiliated with this Kickstarter project. We are not paid by this Kickstarter project in any way.

Personally, I think it's a really cool project with excellent rewards, which is why I'm posting this now. There are few good Kickstarters out there, and clearly this is one of them.

Check out the Kickstarter Page now and pledge!

Your Comments:
@Gary P - the purpose of kickstarter is to get funding for a particular project. In this case, Karl's project was to make some ID Rings. Now that the project is complete, the sky's the limit for his new ID Rings.

How about you just sell ID rings instead of doing this Kickstarter silliness?

Posted by: Gary P on 9/7/2012 10:46:28 AM
@More Options...

So you're looking to get 2 sets of 5 (10 bases total) in two colors rather than 15 bases of one color?? Plus the associated peanut bases, of course.

I'm torn on this... I want people to get what they need/want but at the same time I very leery of opening it up to "custom orders".

Any chance you can get with someone and back the $50 level together? That would give you two colors and 15 (single) bases of each color. More bang for your buck that way. But if that doesn't work for you, shoot me an email (superheroclix at hotmail) and we'll see what we can work out (*crosses fingers that floodgates don't open*).

@hair10: I'm warming up to these, but you don't have the pledge level I'm looking for. I'd like a $25 pledge level where backers at the level receive 2 sets of 5 completed ID rings in a color of their choosing (all rings will be the same color). (Along with two of the double based rings in the chosen colors since you hit that level.) Any way that can happen?

Dude these are awesome! hair10, you totally have my support!

Posted by: rwhitl on 8/6/2012 9:39:37 PM
@yeah: That is correct. "Hair10" is the owner of the Kickstarter project, and he has written 2 articles for HeroClix World in the past (2011) as a freelancer.

The disclaimer put on the article is 100% true. HeroClix World is not affiliated with the Kickstarter project, we have absolutely nothing to do with it (and we receive no money to support it). The same is true for the "Clix Against Cancer" support we did on the front page.

Any freelancer can write for HeroClix World, and we offer payment to them for their articles. What they do outside of HeroClix World is none of our concern.

So if you want to write an article for HeroClix World as a freelancer, we welcome you. But just because you may start a "I love My Little Pony music video" Kickstarter project doesn't mean HeroClix world is affiliated with that in any way.

(and it certainly doesn't mean we'll give you any front page coverage on HeroClix World)

so, it's not supported or affiliated by the website, but it is something that someone who writes for the website runs.....

Oh nice good job.

Thanks to HeroClixWorld and all the backers! A substantial percentage of the pledges came through this site. You all were critical in making this project happen!

If you haven't checked out already, I've added some pretty cool stretch goals. Take a look!

Posted by: hair10 on 8/1/2012 6:56:16 AM
OK, it took me a day longer but I posted a couple of new pictures for you to look at. Just go to the "Updates" and check out Update #3.

Thanks for the support!

Posted by: hair10 on 7/29/2012 8:35:51 AM
Yep, they are slightly bigger than the squares (the oreo bases fit the squares pretty much exactly). But I've been using the prototypes for a few months now without any real issues of figs being adjacent to each other.

Remember, what you're seeing are only prototypes. Once I actually have the 3D printer (assuming the Kickster goes through) I'm going to try and reduce the overall diameter by a bit. I want to make sure the side walls remain sturdy however, as I don't want them to crack or break.

I'll try and get another picture posted tomorrow with figs side by side.

Thanks!

Posted by: hair10 on 7/27/2012 7:49:36 PM
Hair can you post some pics on the Kickstarter page of figures standing adjacent to each other? So we can see how well the ID Rings work with adjacent figures? On Kickstarter you said that adjacent figures fit fine but you have to admit the pic here makes it look like there would be problems.

Posted by: Nechevo on 7/27/2012 5:19:10 PM
Nice! but one question, Can you line a team up next to each other with those bases. Maybe post a picture, It looks like they are a little larger and thus putting characters next to each other might really have some issues

I appreciate all the support from HeroClixWorld and it's readers! Let's make this thing a possibility!

Posted by: hair10 on 7/26/2012 4:53:55 PM
@Lord Logan: Yeah, Amazon needs a credit card. I don't think they've ever accepted Paypal. The good news is that your credit card is only charged if the kickstarter is successful, so your info should be safe and sound!

Posted by: The Le on 7/26/2012 12:38:16 PM
I tried to support but Amazon doesn't seem to accept paypal...:(

Posted by: Lord Logan on 7/26/2012 12:31:40 PM
These seem neat, I trew some support his way. I hope he ends up with enough backing.
