Age of Ultron Review
Age of Ultron: Review
Written & Directed By: Joss Whedon
Starring: Lots and lots of Hollywood folk; just read the review already.

Age of Ultron is stuffed with all the trappings audiences could ask for in a summer blockbuster, but is AOU a better movie than its predecessor?

The Plot: When Tony Stark’s global peacekeeping effort goes to poop, Earth's mightiest heroes: Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), assemble once more to save life as we know it from the destructive artificial intelligence known as Ultron (James Spader).

Age of Ultron visionAs with any summer superhero blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is loaded up with lots of spectacular action sequences and special effects for audiences to "oh" and "ah" about. At times the action and CGI feels so enormous that this movie could have easily floundered into disaster of Michael Bay portions. Luckily, Joss Whedon understands the importance of balancing the excitement with just enough ancillary moments to allow itself to catch its breath. Bruce Banner and Black Widow get romantically complicated, Cap and Iron Man squabble over contrasting viewpoints, Hawkeye gets a meatier part this time around, and we are introduced to a new Avenger (the Vision).

Age of Ultron is fun ride for sure but I dare to say that as much as I liked AOU, I didn’t quite love it. For me the snags rest in the narratives inability to make me ever question the outcome. Of course it’s a foregone conclusion in a superhero movie that good will defeat evil (I get that). Nevertheless, with other Marvel movies there are genuine moments where you are so engrossed in the story that you may actually lose sight of this simple fact and begin to even wonder how the heroes will save the day. I didn’t really feel that this time around. In fact, the Avengers have become so good at Avenging that I found myself wondering how Ultron was going to stand a snowballs chance in hell against them.

Your Comments:
I thought the flow of this movie was great; the scenes and action seemed to flow seamlessly compared to the first one which has definite set-pieces stapled together. I especially loved the handling of the ginormous cast (take THAT Spidey 3!)

The biggest flaws in this for me were nitpicks that had lame consequences. For example, relating everything to Iron Man is boring. Ultron works best as a product of the Pyms, which shows how much it stinks that they were not introduced from jump. This was especially glaring when Ultron was trying to show off for Black Widow in a scene that makes zero sense in the movies but makes sense when he is trying to show off for his 'mommy' the Wasp.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS "HEROCLIX" WORLD.

I loved the movie. At least four stars for me. Having said that it wasn't as good as the first but I don't think it could be. The first avengers movie had three others setting it up as the big finale to a story arc (Thor, iron man two and captain america). This film had to be the setup for the next movie-verse set of story arcs as well as being a standalone story in its own right. I think it did really well in that respect. Can you think of a middle of a trilogy film in recent years that dies the job better?

I did get the sense that they might not win too, especially towards the end. Without wanting to drop an accidenta spoiler you know that whedon isn't scared of changing outcomes, avengers membership dies not guarantee survival in this universe.

I agree with some of the stuff written in the article. i enjoyed the movie very much. i think a lot of comic book movies (x-men united and batman 3 i am looking at you) tend to rush things and ruin characters and story. Theres just too much to tell (years of story) in a few hours. But josh wheddon did a good job as always (firefly, buffy, astonishing x-men). He mixed the avengers a lot of us grew up with mixed with the modern day ultimates universe. Just my 2 cents.

I enjoy a lot the movies and bypass most inaccuracies with one simple rule. The multiverse rule: This is not the universe I've read about but it's near by.

3.5 out of five is pretty good people. So the reviewer didn't give it 5 stars, but don't act like they gave it 2. Sheesh.

I don't really like most of the comic-to-movie inaccuracies either; however, I actually liked the movie. The introduction of new Avengers was cool and Ultron was neat too. I'm not sure if I liked it better than the first Avengers movie, but it's one of my favorite Marvel movies so far. I'm really looking forward to Captain America: Civil War and others.

That is such a low rating for the movie. I mean, I always have problems with inaccuries (such as Vision having a gem, Cap not being able to lift Moljner and Heimdal being black) but this one was far better than the first. Simply put, this movie didn't have to waste the time getting the team together but rather started off them being together. This allowed them to build character within one another more and allow more action combos together instead of just punchimg out separate enemies while standing next to each other. Because of this, I expect Guardians 2 to outdue the first.
