Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Introduction
The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 (November 5th), was an assassination attempt against King James I of England and VI of Scotland by a group of Catholics, including Guy Fawkes. It failed.
Players / Points
Two players (i.e. teams), 500 points. No feats, no BFCs, no objects (see below).
TEAM FAWKES: Your team must have exactly 5 characters. Each of your characters must have at least one of the following keywords (or Team Ability): Hydra, Outlaws, Injustice League, or Masters of Evil. When the game begins, place all your characters on the side board.
TEAM FAWKES SPECIAL: At the beginning of the game you must place 20 objects, face down, across the map under normal object-placement rules. Mark one of these objects as GUNPOWDER. All other objects are considered TRAPS. They are not considered "in game" until they are turned over.
TEAM PARLIAMENT: Members of this team must have at least one of the following keywords: Police, Detective, Warrior, or Soldier. You have exactly 6 rounds to find the GUNPOWDER.
Turning Over an Object
Only TEAM PARLIAMENT characters can turnover on object. Each TEAM PARLIAMENT may, once per turn, turn over any object that he/she is adjacent to. When the object is turned over, follow these rules:
1) If this character was moving, then that character's movement ends, but it can finish it's action if applicable (Charge, Running Shot, HSS, etc).
2) If the object is a TRAP, Roll 2d6.
•On a result of 2-6... Surprise! remove the object and the opponent replaces it with a TEAM FAWKES character.
• On a result of 7... Dud! this becomes a standard light object.
• On a result of 8-12... Boom! Take 1 unavoidable damage. This character's action ends.
Winning
• If TEAM PARLIAMENT turns over the GUNPOWDER, the Gunpowder Treason is foiled and TEAM PARLIAMENT WINS.
• At the end of the 6th round, if the GUNPOWDER is not found, TEAM FAWKES wins the game.
Strategy (Team Fawkes)
Don't place all the objects on your side of the map. Place some near your opponent, to force him/her to turn it over.
Strategy (Team Parliament)
Place all your figures next to objects and turn them over all at the same time. You only get one shot at it, so do that first. HSS figures aren't a bad option since you can still make a close combat attack after you turnover the object.
Option
To make it easier for Team Parliament, increase the total rounds to 10 or reduce the total objects to 15 (or both).
Historical Outcome
Guy Fawkes was caught along with the barrels of gunpowder he planned to light. Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated every 5th of November to commemorate this failed assassination attempt.
"On the 5th of November we began our Parliament, to which the King should have come in person, but refrained through a practise but that morning discovered. The plot was to have blown up the King at such time as he should have been set on his Royal Throne, accompanied with all his Children, Nobility and Commoners and assisted with all Bishops, Judges and Doctors; at one instant and blast to have ruin'd the whole State and Kingdom of England. And for the effecting of this, there was placed under the Parliament House, where the king should sit, some 30 barrels of powder, with good store of wood, faggots, pieces and bars of iron."
