Ages of HeroClix (new tournaments)
There are only 2 "official" tournament types sanctioned by Wizkids: Golden Age and Modern Age, which doesn't leave much room for variety in the HeroClix World (see what we did there). Fortunately we're here to help with new Tournament Types for your home games and venues. Note that these are unofficial tournament types, but fortunately Wizkids gives you a lot of latitude to run your games any way you want.

Note: "traits, specials powers, and character cards" started with the Legion of Superheroes (LOSH) starter set. Anything before that set used the old REV colored-rings system.

Golden Age (official)
Mostly unrestricted tournament that allows for nearly everything: All legal figures, Special Objects, Bystander Tokens, Colossals, ATAs, Feats, etc. There's only a handful of things not allowed (purple ring figures, the Holiday Turkey and Turducken, etc).

Modern Age (official)
A heavily restricted tournament type (also the most common) that is limited to figures from specific sets (the most recent ones).

HeroClix World Tournament Types
HeroClix World is happy to present these new unofficial Tournament types for your venues and home games.

Note that none of these tournament types allow for Bystander tokens or Alternate-Team-Abilities. When announcing your tournament please specify if ATAs and Bystander Tokens are allowed or disallowed. While Colossal figures are allowed, you have the option of disallowing them.

Also, many of these types allow for non Marvel/DC sets. You can specify "Marvel/DC only" if you want to avoid players coming in with Yu-Gi-Oh or some other madness. When you announce your tournament, simply specify "Marvel/DC only".

HeroClix Plaitinum AgePlatinum Age
NO pre-LOSH-Starter figures allowed. No feats/BFCs allowed.

HeroClix New Universe AgeIndy Age
Only non-Marvel and non-DC figures allowed. No feats/BFCs allowed.

HeroClix Amalgam AgeAmalgam Age

HeroClix 16 Bit Age16-Bit Age
Only figures from game sets allowed: Street Fighter, Gears of War, Halo, Assassin's Creed, etc. No Feats/BFCs allowed.

There you have it. Seven new tournament types for you home games and venues. The most useful types are likely to be Silver Age and Heroic Age games, since they are the most sensible and gives you the best bang for your buck. To keep it simple we recommend you specify "Marvel/DC only".

What are feats and bfcs

Silver Age is pretty well defined across they player-verse as "anything with a card". Might be limited to DC, Marvel, not sure.

We've recently started playing Oreo Age, anything with an Oreo base. Feels kind of arbitrary except that those are the figures I can access easily in my collection.

Your Platinum Age is what our store uses 90% of the time. We just say carded figures only, and no Feats/BFCs/Event Dials.

The dial is for a Locust Kantus

At our store we have a standing no set restriction house rule as well as a no bfc/feats cards rule, not because we don't like them but they are not really prevalent in our area. It seems work out well, we get a good mix of figs at every constructed tournament

I'm partial to using "Silver Age" to refer to any carded (LOSH & newer) heroclix figure/game element. I am neither opposed to nor in favor of the use of older tactics like BFC's, Feats, etc.; if a player showed up in and event at the venue I run events with one, I wouldn't disallow it, and even commend them on thier thinking.

I really like the "only pre-LOSH starter figs can use feats" rule. Although I might be inclined to allow them for anything pre-Arkham Asylum as those figs won't abuse feats too much and I think feats were still in boosters up til then. Ish. Not sure I remember exactly when feats ended.
16 bit age is pure genius!
How about Anarchic Age with BFCs,event dials, Bystanders and purple ringers allowed.
