Marvel Fear Itself HeroClix Spoilers

Fear Itself (from wikipedia): The story's antagonist is the Serpent, an Asgardian being who sows doubt and fear among the superheroes of the Marvel Comics Universe, as illustrated by early promotional images for the event, which depict Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America, Cyclops, Thor, and Iron Man coming face to face with their worst nightmares.During this conflict, which is referred to among the characters as the Serpent's War,the Serpent is revealed to be Cul, Odin's brother, who assumed the throne of Asgard following the death of their father, Bor at the dawn of time, and was banished and imprisoned by Odin following Cul's corrupt rule, and a prophecy by Yggdrasil that cost Odin his right eye, and revealed that Cul's madness could only be cured by the death of Odin's son.

we need a character chart for this set.

Someone should put captions on all of them.

Thank you thank you sooo much wizkids for giving us solo play rules with the blitzkrieg. Im getting this just for that. Well the models look pretty cool also

This set looks phenomenal and super powered. I bet it sells out hard. Pre-order!

Posted by: DJ Wilde on 4/16/2013 6:04:41 AM
Does anybody else think there should be more X-men in the set ?

Posted by: M on 4/9/2013 2:06:31 PM
My point was, ask the owner and see if you can organize your own events there.

Posted by: superfriend on 4/1/2013 1:07:38 PM
@ Superfriend- That's how I got into the game- walked into the comic shop I was frequenting at the time and they had a game in progress and I just thought it was the coolest thing- This was back in the days of Clobberin' Time. I think comics stores are the best places for Heroclix. Because what drives the fan base (in my opinion)is the eternal search for the ultimate answer to the ultimate fan boy question: Just who can kick whose ass? So, since you mentioned it, I think moving your games to Wed. is an excellent idea

Also the Asgardian Troll Mike Mignolia anyone

Posted by: The Wanderer on 3/29/2013 3:38:15 PM
Now THAT! is Dracula guess I was wrong about the Op kit but it will definiley be intresting.

@Licensedhero - The store I was playing at stopped tournaments on Thursday evening last fall and a month later started them on Sunday afternoon hoping to get a bigger crowd. The new day/time does not work for me. One of the other players and I get together at the store on Thursday and play a game anyway. We are considering moving it to Wednesday so the comic book crowd sees us and might be interested. All we really do is set a build format (say 500points, no figure over 125 points or 600 points, all villains, one universe, 3 actions per turn) and make phone calls the night before to make sure the game is still on. I always buy $15 to $25 of stuff while I am there to support the store (somehow they have to pay for lights, heat, and rent).

If you have a store nearby, you might consider trying something like this and see if it takes off.

@Superfriend- That's good advice, but it's advice I'm already taking. I'm currently trying to complete Secret Invasion. And I don't mean complete the set, I just mean getting the pieces I wanted. But I do want to acknowledge that you have totally called me out- I will eventually buy the pieces I want even when the prices are ridiculous. Last year I olny bought a brick from Chaos War. In 2011 I bought a brick from every set, which is where my math from the previous post came from.

I'm just not a fan of the JSA. I respect their place in history as the first team, but in my mind the characters were all replaced with better versions. Silver age trumps golden age for me. I do prefer Scott to Guy Gardner, though. I was a Marvel guy in the 80's and an Indy guy in the 90's. (So obviously I enjoyed the inclusion of the Wild CATs in Batman)I've followed DC sporadically. With DC it seems like every time they get some momentum going, they start trying to reinvent the wheel again.

Regarding team selection I'm not a tournament player. There's no venue near me that does it. Someone's always talking about organizing an event, but they never do. So I play for fun with family and friends. So losing games doesn't bother me so much.

Man. I hope I didn't just bore you to sleep. I don't really have a point to make that I didn't already make in my post on the 22nd. My beef is with Wizkids making too many figures too hard to get, not with any players.

Posted by: Licensedhero on 3/29/2013 7:24:38 AM
@Licensedhero - you've never read stories about Alan Scott, the Green Lantern from the 40s? Not a single issue of JSA during Johns' run?

If you are not interested in generics or classic characters like Alan Scott Green Lantern, who are you interested in and why do you buy pieces based on characters you are not interested in?

I ask because I find that if I play teams I am not thrilled with, I frequently am disappointed and would have had a better time playing other figures. Case in point, I recently played both Sinister Syndicate and Wildcats, both times I had a back up team of Justice League, both times I lost more than I won, and both times regretted my choice within the first few minutes of the first game.

Posted by: superfriend on 3/28/2013 11:09:10 AM
@Licensedhero
not sure how much I've spent, but in general, I don't buy bricks. I know I am going to have to buy for sealed events, so I do that and support the brick and mortar by doing so. My friends who bought bricks of Hulk and then played in sealed still have tons of extras. I've bought extras off of friends, bought singles in stores, bought singles on other sites and eBay.

You also mention convention exclusives. I learned long ago to be content with what I could get and live without the rest. I've been playing for 10 years. I doubt I have 1 complete set.

For example, for Batman I bought 4 boosters so my son and I could play in NML 1. Bought some singles from the store while at NML 2. Bought some on line. Made a few trades. Bought the Fast Forces set. Bought 2 super boosters. Bought some on eBay. Now I just need Barda for CUR plus I have 3 SRs and 2 vehicle (both are jets!). Most of the singles I bought cost me 1 to 2 dollars.

The trick is to not have to have the entire set the day it comes out. I wait. Prices go down. And I know well in advance I will never have them all.

Posted by: superfriend on 3/28/2013 11:04:06 AM
I heard that Skirn (Titania)(one of my favorite Marvel characters) is only 150 points while all the rest of the worthy are 200 and over. This better not be true, because i'll be SUUUUUPER pissed off!

Posted by: white phoenix of the crown on 3/28/2013 9:42:06 AM
No cyclops announced yet grrr

Posted by: M on 3/27/2013 9:20:13 AM
So all of the figures have been made, but no dials are released? Is Wizkids being sneeky or am I just not looking hard enough?

Posted by: white phoenix of the crown on 3/25/2013 1:31:56 PM
@ Superfriend- I'm not knocking the effectiveness of those pieces or other commons. I am making a disparaging remark about my interest in them. I didn't read comics about Arkham guards, hired goons, unnamed Gotham policemen or even Alan Scott. It seem like you've done really well with your collection and haven't had to spend much on figures outside of conventional purchases, but how much did you spend just on those last year? 4 brick would put you in the range of $350 plus... and then there's convention exclusives and mini sets. I'm just saying $500 a year on Heroclix is a bit much. I blame George Bush. Everything was fine until rising gas prices drove up the cost of boosters.

Posted by: Licensedhero on 3/22/2013 4:13:43 PM
"so I can afford to play at my venue for this."

If these are like IG and NML, they will be once a month. 1 sealed event a month should be doable.

Posted by: superfriend on 3/22/2013 11:27:13 AM
okay so why do I feel that at 120 points wit indomitable and flight, this Spidey will be better than the 024.

Posted by: Slade on 3/22/2013 11:15:31 AM
I have to take task with this comment: "Every figure worth having these days is $30 or more."

My collection has grown in leaps and bounds since I started back up during the Hulk set events. I've put together a full CUR set plus a few SRs from Superman, Hulk, GG, and CW. My Batman set is missing 1 rare. From SOG I got a full UC set for less than $1 each. The only pieces I have paid for outside of booster pulls have been a few SRs at an average of 7$ each.

I've won many games - although no full tournaments - with these pieces. Last night the MVP of my Gotham City themed team was 10th Anniv Alan Scott which I paid $2.25 for. 37 point SOG Police Detective had my opponents Soldier themed army's defense outwitted every turn.

Sure Chase Thanos is a pain to deal with. So are certain other expensive pieces. But there are a LOT of great pieces which are inexpensive. And the rate at which pieces are being released means the secondary market prices for pieces from prior sets is going down faster than ever before except for a very few pieces.

Posted by: superfriend on 3/22/2013 10:01:02 AM
OMG!!!!!!! Sigh, guess I'll be passing on Titans, Ironman and Wolie & The X-men so I can afford to play at my venue for this.

Posted by: Danzig01 on 3/22/2013 6:32:01 AM
I think the straw that broke the camel's back for me was the morph trait on Spidey in ASM... This game has gone from fun and inexpensive to fun and REALLY expensive. I'll have to pass on Fear Itself, because it would take me years to complete it. Every figure worth having these days is $30 or more. Who can afford that these days?

Posted by: licensedhero on 3/21/2013 5:08:18 PM
Some very interesting stuff, but I seriously don't like the sound of the way it will be distributed.
Titania could do with a but more muscle.

Posted by: annoyinglizardvoice on 3/21/2013 10:38:05 AM
Agreed. I live in a very small town. Theres literally a handful of stores and none are hobby stores. I want these models really bad. Guess it might not happen. Don't wanna spend a fortune per model.

Posted by: Pandab0mb on 3/21/2013 10:36:40 AM
I hear you Tony. I have been with Heroclix from the very start & gotten every set along the way, but this may be the straw that broke the camel's back. This is so not fair to those of us that don't live near a venue.

Posted by: redskindavyd on 3/20/2013 10:47:06 PM
These are so cool! It's a shame they are only for people who have a venue to play at. I guess I will never have these for myself unless I shell out on ebay.
