From the opening credits sequence, Deadpool lets viewers know what kind of a ride they are in for and never lets up. I’m sure a movie with some 80+ F-bombs and at least 20 sexual references is bound to polarize audiences. But part of Deadpool’s charms is the films uncanny ability to somehow utilize its offensive material in such a satirical way that it can’t for one second be held accountable. Let’s keep in mind, this is an R rated movie and parents that take their children to see such a film can only blame themselves.

Right: The Quintessential Deadpool HeroClix Dial

As if Ryan Reynolds didn’t have enough going for him, he’s now found the superhero-ish franchise he’s been looking for. Granted he technically played this character on screen once before in Wolverine: Origins, but Deadpool quickly separates itself from its predecessor like it was a red headed stepchild. As Deadpool, Reynolds embodies Wade Wilson heart and soul. The wacked out witticisms, the breaking of the 4th wall and over the top spectacular action is all present and accounted for. The other characters in the film are all solid and have their moments, but let’s not kid ourselves, this films success was always dependent on Reynolds performance and he wholly delivers the goods.

Continued below...

At times some of the CGI effects are a bit muddled but for the most part it works. The only real criticism I have falls on the films villain’s. Don’t get it twisted, I didn’t have any problem with the performance of British rapper turned actor Ed Skrein as Ajax and God knows Gina Carano is always a welcome edition as far as I’m concerned. I just felt they were all-purpose villains with no true motivation to their machinations; but honestly, I was laughing and enjoying myself too much to dwell on those paltry details.

To their credit, Fox smartly takes a page out of Marvel’s book capitalizing on the opportunity to link Deadpool to its mostly successful X-Men Franchise. Having various X-Men characters appear in Deadpool is only logical considering the character got his start in an X-Men spin off book. This will allow a potential plethora of familiar characters to interchange between the two movie franchises.

While Deadpool’s relentless use of risqué material will undoubtedly test some folk’s sensibilities, those who are able to look past the obscenities and let the chips fall where they may will have one very entertaining movie experience. I know I did.

4.5 out of 5 stars for Deadpool.

@ theRealMisterWilson- I like Deathstroke too another one of my faves since the beginning...but yes movie was bad, but you also spent the $ to see it too....

Booooo! This flick was awful! 0/5 stars. I can't believe millions of dollars were wasted on this ripoff character. A real bad mutha doesn't need a healing factor and Deadpool's costume is an eyesore. Apparently it takes a real man to rock the orange and blue!

Note I've been a deadpool fan since. New mutants debute..

The director decided to go the story behind the mask and The movie focused way to much on drama and love interest! And I atand by my previous comment full of typos.. 2 1/2 to 3 out of 5! ??

Posted by: Bardock on 2/18/2016 11:54:56 AM
Movie was to dramatic. And it didn't capture deadpool split personalities, they movie decided to go the "story behind the mask" instead of just a random action comedy... The humor was way to perverted... A little bit is funny but this movie had way too much... Action scenes were way to fast blink and youd miss something... They focused way to much on a story line. Than just have Deadpool be Deadpool in random situations with random bad guys... The flash backs were really pointless and weak.... I know how Deadpool became Deadpool I just wanted to see him be be Deadpool... The funny parts are too quick and unmemorable... All the previews showed the funny parts... Pros.
2 1/2 to 3 out of 5 stars... Fox failed...

I am thinking of changing my costume to green. As in.. envy! I mean geez, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was the original wise-cracking scrapper, and yet every movie based on m... *ahem* him has only a fraction of the humor of this Deadpool flick. And he's not even a real hero!

It's almost like the Spidey movies were watered down to appeal to every demographic while the Deadpool movie was written with love to showcase the character. Oh well, maybe they'll get it right next reboot...

This movie completed me. Seriously, it was awesome.
