I should elaborate more. The glass was bulletproof and they blew up the glass by tossing a grenade at it. The blast doors were locked down do they couldn't escape that way.

BRIAN is the winner! He is correct -- there is NO CDC in the comic book version at all! In fact, the inclusion of the CDC is probably the biggest deviation in the tv series.
