The Quintessential Doomsday HeroClix DialHow do you design a dial for the villain that once killed Superman? Very carefully. Once again, master designer Eric Schaen returns with his take on the Quintessential Doomsday HeroClix Dial! Played at nearly any build total, Doomsday is indeed a Superman Killer!

The Quintessential series discusses just one character and presents the "ideal" HeroClix dial for that character.

There's a few things you'll notice right off the bat -- first, there is no KO slots on the Quintessential Doomsday dial. Instead, it's replaced by the Adaptation Trait. It's pretty simple really... you're going to place Adaptation tokens on his card in increments of 3. If you place 3 tokens, Doomsday costs 100 points. If you place 6 tokens, Doomsday costs 200 points. If you place 9 tokens, Doomsday costs 300 points, etc. This allows you to play the Quintessential Doomsday as a solo character or in a larger team.

Dial By Eric Schaen (continued below...)

The Quintessential Doomsday Dial

Now, every time Doomsday takes damage, you remove one adaptation token; when he's out of tokens then he's KO'ed. So even at 100 points, you have to hit him three times to KO him (no matter how much damage you do with each of those three hits). If this trait looks familiar, it should -- it was used successfully on Bizarro!

Remember, Doomsday is a total beast. He doesn't follow the normal rules for bad guys (it's not easy to kill Superman you know). As part of the Adaptation trait, you roll a d6 at the beginning of each turn, then start turning the dial. Again, there are no KO slots, so you never quite know what you're going to get. Well, that's not true -- if you're on the other side you know you're going to get a beatdown.

The rest of the Quintessential Doomsday is pretty straight foward, whether it's Charge, Flurry, Super Strength, or Blades/Claws/Fangs. Even without B/C/F, he can deal loads of damage since his damage value is usually 4 or 5 with a chance to get Exploit Weakness.

On the defensive side, his Defense is super high (never dropping below 17). His high armor shrugs off attacks easily, which is represented also by Impervious and Invulnerability.

As I said, the dial is very straight forward, but what makes him truly unique is how the Adaptation works. The Quintessential Doomsday is a one man army, and Eric's design brings that prominently to the forefront.

This figure is a beast! I love how he doesn't take traditional damage and keep going til he's down! This figure would be absolutely amazing to play and play against.

Really just super boring, I was expecting something cool because the ability was called adaptation tokens. Very disappointing
.

For those of you who ever check out 'Stan's Rants' on you tube Pandabomb1 is right. Lee points out that in a fight between X and Y it will always be whoever needs to win to advance the plot in the writer's POV that will win!

I like this doomsday. Hope wizkids picks up on this. About the hulk vs supes thing. I love hulk more than supes. Dont get me wrong supes is cool, but marvel had said that due to supes being the most famous of all heroes world breaker Hulk would lose out of respect. supes has said that he holds back because he doesnt want to damage the earth or the ppl in it. I always said that a comic book winner would be difficult to say for many reasons. Writers have changed up power levels so many times on their characters.

WBH vs wolverine as death would be a cool fight to see. Before anyone says anything. The winner would depend on the story and who wrote it not who seems more powerful.

Well normal hulk and World Breaker Hulk are two totally different animals. While both get angry WBH was at a level of anger that normal hulk noramlly doesn't get to. In a fight WBH and Superman would be no contest WBH would distry Superman without even blinking an eye. Id like to see a New52 Doomsday Superman once that story as run it's course.

Still say way more gracious to DC than Marvel. The Hulk that was made was crap compared to this. I get Doomsday is a beast, the guy killed Superman, and the Hulk literally fought off Earth's mightiest heroes, and all he gets is the bonus stats trait? One pulse wave away from being s%#t

For the record this is based on the Death of superman doomsday. Not a fan of most things nu52 or 26 or whatever.

Innovative dial! Only question is why doesn't he have Leap/Climb as a trait and a full dial of Charge & Flurry?

Not crazy about the tokens. I really hate the bizarro that works similarly. Love the rest of it though. Do you think it would be possible to see a version of this dial without that mechanic?

Posted by: eGG on 8/28/2014 7:13:05 AM
Great for Pre Flashpoint Doomsday but New 52 Doomsday is even stronger now and has some kind of death field around him that kills anyone nearby while making himself stronger. (only Superman can last any amount of time near him) Kind of a Penetrating Poison combines with Steal Energy with range

Love it!!!!

All I can say is, I really want to run around the map with this big crazy monster! Good job guys, love this!

I can dig it! I especially like the balance in the amount of tokens per 100 points. The Bizzaro seems a bit broken at higher points, this one seems more reasonable.

2 things I really like about this dial.

First it allows you to play big D at a point level that will rampage through a whole host of heroes and still nail Superman at the end. This is a figure that needs to be playable at a truly apocalyptic level which the mechanic allows.

Secondly this version actually has some speed to him! Previous versions have been so slow that they'll struggle to catch a HSS hit and run Superman. The man in blue can still land the first hit or two but he WILL be caught up to!

This should Be a juggernaut Dial, Would like to see at least one Clix with a crazy State Like 12speed, 14 Attack 20 Def(With toughness) and 6 Damage. That be amazing if one clix slot would
have that.
