HeroClix ClixCraves: Captain AmericaThe 4th of July is here, and what better way to celebrate than with the First Avenger? To celebrate this American holiday, Eric Schaen has created the quintessential Captain America HeroClix dial!

ClixCraves is a series of articles discussing HeroClix figures we want to see in the future. Our selection criteria can be new never-before-seen figures, or it could be a request for remakes of old figures.

HeroClix ClixCraves: Captain America

Eric Schaen's Captain America comes with Leap/Climb, Precision Strike, Toughness, Combat Reflexes, Close Combat Expert, Perplex, Flurry, Leadership, Outwit, and more... a whole lot more!

Your Comments:
I disagree with the Leadership. Capt America should be able to use Leadership on anyone, not matter the cost value of the figure. This is the guy who tells Gods what to do...

Not a bad cap! I really like the mighty shield trait, now the other trait should have been more like the WS cap where he can make two ranged attacks and count range and line if fire from the first attacked character! That woul have been boss!

@ SF: Yeah I got your point, you made it abundantly clear. There is nothing wrong with your thinking, however it is no more correct than any other subjective opinion.

I see cap as the guy who finds a way to defeat or shut down foes that are more powerful than him on a regular basis. Exactly the function of Outwit in the game.

So I don't feel that a Cap with outwit is wrong by any means. Good chating with you.

Posted by: Shaft! on 7/9/2014 8:24:33 AM
@Shaft
You may see that as one of Cap's abilities. That's fine. What I was trying to say is that on a team, which is how I see Cap, outsmarting the opponent is not the role I see him fulfilling.

Cap leads. Thor smashes. Tony out thinks. Reed does it even better, but is usually on a different team.

Superman has been portrayed at times as having a super intelligence and on occasion been given outwit, but on a team, Batman usually fills that role.

Posted by: superfriend on 7/9/2014 7:11:24 AM
@ SF the problem with about outwit is that its your interpolation. Outwit has been given to so many characters (including multiple existing versions of cap) to represent various ways of outsmarting your opponent.

Cap certainly has done that again and again. Preference or no, it does not make this dial inaccurate.

Posted by: Shaft! on 7/8/2014 11:17:00 AM
What I meant by a swiss army knife is that Cap does not need to bring all of the powers onto the field by himself.

In the comics, Cap is smart enough to bring other heroes in to help him. If he needs an outwit, he will bring Tony Stark or recruit Reed Richards to go into battle with him. Cap brings the leadership to make them better, they bring the outwit.

Posted by: superfriend on 7/8/2014 8:26:25 AM
I guess that depends on how you see the powers and the characters. To me, Cap's "careful planning and strategy" is covered by Leadership and possibly some advantage to characters he is leading (enhancement, empower, CCE, RCE, some +1 to attack, etc). He overcomes the opposition by making his allies better.

Outwit is the opposite, crippling your enemy. To me, that's the realm of sneaky people like Batman or scientists.

Posted by: superfriend on 7/8/2014 8:23:12 AM
Hmm, I don't see this dial as being a Swiss army knife that "can do everything". In terms of Outwit:

Rogers' battle experience and training make him an expert tactician and an excellent field commander, with his teammates frequently deferring to his orders in battle. Thor has stated that Rogers is one of the very few humans he will take orders from and follow "through the gates of Hades".

Rogers has vast U.S. military knowledge and is often shown to be familiar with ongoing, classified Defense Department operations. He is an expert in combat strategy, survival, acrobatics, military strategy, piloting, and demolitions. Despite his high profile as one of the world's most popular and recognizable superheroes, Rogers has a broad understanding of the espionage community, largely through his ongoing relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D.

For a great example of Caps tactics see Infinity he pretty much lead forces of multiple worlds and beat the opposition through careful planning and strategy.

So, outwit is completely justifiable.

To me, the question about Mighty Shield is should it be a traut or a special defense power. In other words, should an opponent be able to outwit (counter) it and should pulse wave be able to ignore it. I say yes. It represents the shield, which can be knocked away, separated from him (hey, I just watched FF:RoSS and they were able to separate the Silver Surfer from his board, so separating Cap from his shield can happen). So this should be a special power and not a trait.

My other issue is with Tactician & Field Commander. Cap definitely deserves an upgraded version of Leadership. I have no issue with that. My issue is with giving him Outwit. Cap it not a "counter a given power" type of guy. Iron Man, yes. Mr. Fantastic, yes, but not Cap. Remove the Outwit and it is fine. In fact, I would actually lean this power in another direction with a slight rename.

Damage: Field Commander and Inspiration: Captain America Can use Leadership. When he uses Leadership, he succeeds on a result of 4-6. If you remove a token from an adjacent friendly character as a result of this, that character gets +1 to their attack for this turn.

Remember, not every piece should be a swiss army knife which can do everything. It is more important that they represent as accurately as possible the character from the source material.

Posted by: superfriend on 7/7/2014 11:14:22 AM
I have to go the other way on this. Making a 5-6 or taking damage as per normal, seems completely accurate to me. Combat reflexes is one way to show ones fighting prowess for sure, but he has his shield which should give him the ability to block attacks be they close or ranged. I think the trait represents that quite well and in a more original way. He either blocks or takes the hit. Seems fair to me.

Posted by: Shaft on 7/7/2014 6:20:11 AM
I agree with El Super Besto. Should only be for ranged attacks. It's not that Cap can't defend himself from melee attacks (that's what combat reflexes should exemplify), it's just that I think this piece is bordering on OP to have an impervious like power that is traited and able to be used for all attacks.

Posted by: Kevin on 7/6/2014 2:54:18 PM
I like that the Mighty shield can not be ignored. He was near Human Torch when he went Nova during secret wars and the shield kept Cap from getting burned. Take that pulse wave!

Posted by: Sick of Pulsewave. on 7/5/2014 1:17:09 PM
I don't like the Mighty Shield, not being countered or ignored. Its already a trait, making it difficult to do already, but Cap, has been separated from his shield before, so it should be able to happen in Clixs too.

Posted by: Madgod! on 7/4/2014 1:37:24 PM
@ El super Besto. What you saying? He cant block a melee attack with that shield? I think it's fine.

Posted by: Stakr on 7/4/2014 12:56:02 PM
Great dial! Only small fix for mighty shield, instead any attack, it should be for only ranged attacks. Other then that, it's a great dial!

Posted by: El super besto on 7/4/2014 10:17:10 AM
Ricocheting Shield:: "if you do" seems un-needed (a ; will suffice. Other that that, nice dial..
