Weeks ago someone asked me if I could find the dirt on Masterpiece HeroClix figures, which were introduced several years ago to the HeroClix system. After some digging around with absolutely no luck, I went straight to source(s) -- Seth "inkslinger" Johnson, Jason "BrotherMagneto" Mical, and Karl "Hair10" Markovich.
Right: Custom by Myke Dela Paz
Here's what they had to say.
Seth Johnson (former HeroClix Dial designer)
I don't remember what sets they came out in, but they did exist. The masterpiece figures were hand-painted versions of the figures, done by our in-house master painters at WizKids. I think they came with a certificate of authenticity. Can't remember anything beyond that, though. I think Karl (hair10) has or had some, though.

Jason Mical (former Wizkids Communications Manager)
The first Masterpiece was a Spider-Man, the second was a Batman. I used to have a Batman Masterpiece with the COA and everything (I bought it from someone... it may have even been Hair10). I think there was at least one more Masterpiece figure after that but I cannot remember what it was.
There were 50 of each figure, and each Master Piece was numbered 1-50 with the signed COA. The stats were, as I recall, identical to the veteran or Unique version of the character, whichever served as the basis for the masterpiece.
That's all I remember!
