Star Trek Tactics is a new HeroClix set coming out in 2012, and focuses on ship-to-ship combat. While this in itself is very exciting, the HeroClix World was taken by surprise at the announcement that Star Trek Tactics will be 100% compatible with the current superhero HeroClix.
This edition of Critical Clix will look at the good (critical hit) and bad (critical miss) of this potential new HeroClix product.
Critical Hit: HeroClix Game Mechanics
Because Star Trek Tactics is using HeroClix game mechanics, this instantly gives it a built-in audience... mainly you, the reader. This is extremely important as it allows existing players to get right into the action immediately and not have to worry about that pesky "rule book". This is also a good thing because every existing HeroClix player will be able to mentor new players who are unfamiliar with the HeroClix World (see what I did there?). This is very similar to what they did with HorrorClix -- it's compatibility allowed HeroClix players to pick the game very quickly, and I would expect the same with Star Trek Tactics.
Critical Hit: Space Maps!
I can't wait to fight in the asteroid fields outside of Earth. I can't wait to avoid space debris and space Monsters that are randomly found on the maps. Oooo! Oooo! Maybe we'll get the chance to fight outside of Regula I. The potetial for maps is just... out of this world
I hope I get a good opponent the first time I play, and he puts me to task, because I shall have him! I'll chase him round the Moons of Nibia, and round the Antares Maelstrom, and round perdition's flames before I give him up!
