Joe Kubert is a comic book icon. He was a major cartoon artist in the industry and started the Joe Kubert school of art. He's well known for many works, including Sgt. Rock and Hawkman. You've probably seen the artwork of his sons, Adam and Andy.
Today, Joe Kubert died at the age of 85.
In his graphic novel, Yossel, he wrote, "I got my first paying job as a cartoonist for comic books when I was eleven-and-a-half or twelve years old. Five dollars a page. In 1938, that was a lot of money."
Joe's first work for DC Comics was penciling and inking Seven Soldiers of Victory. As mentioned earlier, he's most known for his Hawkman and Sgt. Rock work. As well as artist, Joe worked as DC Comic's Director of Publications from 1967 to 1976, a nine year span. Interestingly enough, he continued to do artwork during this time (Tarzan) and he created Ragman!
Joe, you will be missed.
