Welcome back to another top 5 article. Today I’m taking a look at the top 5 versions of Spider-man in the game of Heroclix. He’s Marvel's Flagship character and Spidey has had a character in almost every Marvel set.
Now, be advised I’m only looking at versions that fit into a standard 300 point game format; that being said, there are a lot of versions of Spider-man to choose from. So I set criteria for myself based on a combination of how well the characters played for the time they were created, and how they would do in the modern age. So let’s take a look at the top 5:
#5 E Universe & V Ultimate
The #5 spot on the list is actually a tie between these two, as they have similar attributes. Both have a low point cost, the Spider-man team ability, a 4 range and similar powers through their dials. What really made them such great choices in the past was the use of feats. In particular, the Pounce feat took these guys from the second string to first choice picks. Both have the ability to pounce on an opponent with super strength for major damage, while on their second clix, leap, climb, and super senses provide a chance to get out of harms way without taking additional damage.

For a time, either of these two could be a real terror on the battle field. If you really wanted to be a pain in the dupa, you could also make use of Nanobots to heal up damage and Pounce again. Then a change to the rules occurred that made Pounce and Super Strength no longer a viable option. They seemed to disappear from the battle filed in favor of some newer/better choices for playing old web head. Some time had passed and the rules were changed yet again, and these two found themselves restored to their former glory for Golden age games. If they were viable options in modern age games, I doubt they would see much play. Their lack of keywords and old school dials make them a little obsolete for the modern age. They had their day in the sun and can still be devastating in a golden age game; that’s why they are #5 on the list.
