With Spider-Man movie reboot this year, we thought we'd look back at the first 3 Sony Spider-Man movies. Let's continue with...
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
They say the third time is a charm, well not always. When the previews for Spider-Man 3 surfaced, I remember thinking, this film is going to have a lot going on, and it did. In fact, that was the problem there was just too much going on here. Peter’s struggle with his dark side and 3 different villains made the movie feel a bit jerky. Dealing with several themes like; friendship, revenge, envy and forgiveness may have been too much for one movie. Sandman being tied to Uncle Ben’s death, was not exactly a good choice either.
Still, I don’t consider Spider-Man 3 completely unwatchable. I thought the moments between Peter and Harry, both as friends and enemies were enjoyable. I liked the rivalry between Peter and Eddie Brock as competing photographers and the effects were great again. Sadly those moments were far and few and couldn’t make up for the convoluted storyline that pulled this movie down.
Things I kind of liked about the film:
•The fact that despite JJJ’s best attempts to ruin Spidey’s reputation, the citizens of the “Big Apple” see him as a hero. Take that Flattop!
•The scenes when Peter is using the Symbiote during his confrontations with the Sandman and Harry Osborne. It was fun seeing Spider-Man unrestrained by his principles.
