The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - Early Impressions

Admittedly, when I first heard that Sony had plans to re-boot Spider-Man in a new direction, I thought oh no, why? OK, the third film wasn’t nearly as good as the first two, but is re-booting the series from scratch really necessary?

Next, the announcement of Andrew Garfield cast as Peter Parker. This got me curious. I had recently seen his acting in the Social Network and actually thought he was one of the best things about the film. So the kid can act, but is he really up to the challenge of playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man? Then other news soon followed; the news of Marc Webb as the film’s director, the use of mechanical web-shooters, The Lizard as the villain, Gwen Stacey as Peters love interest and a supporting cast featuring respectable actors like Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary. My thoughts began to shift; maybe this could turn out to actually be a good thing after all.

Then I saw the initial teaser trailer. It looked ok, but it didn’t exactly wow me. Then the official trailer hit and I liked what I saw, I liked it a lot. I remember saying out loud “Holy crap, did Spider-man just make a wisecrack? Yes!” Then, as I sat in the theater waiting for the Avengers to start, a brand new trailer appeared, and I have to admit, I thought it looked great. Now, my opinion has done a complete 180, and I actually have high hopes for this movie. The question is, will The Amazing Spider-Man be an energetic thrill-ride like the original movie, or will it go the disappointing route of the third film.

With July 3^rd quickly approaching, I guess we will find out soon enough.

i am sorry for all the people who hated but i just can't see why people have a hate steark on ovies that end to be three but i do agree with some of your point's like the no venom mask or the fact that harry was not allowed tp save mary jane. but overall it was a okay movie i would give it a 3.5 out of 5

the thing that ruined spiderman 3 for me was the casting of venom, that actor should have been hired to play peter parker from the off set instead of toby (cardboard cut out) maguire. and he had no where near the intimidation factor you expect from venom.
that and my general hatred of shoe-horning an extra villan into the movie, both characters were easily well deserving of thier own leading villan slots rather than having to share screen time with the other... multiple villans sounds like a good idea on paper but i dont think it's been pulled off on screen yet. and yes i dont feel it worked in the dark knight either... harvey dent was fine but they should have saved two face for the next one rather than screwing up banes appearence

2 things I hated most about Spidey 3:

-Venom was rarely Venom. It seemed the actor's agent successfully lobbied to have his face and real voice poking out of the symbiote every other second.

-The ending was a mess. Peter and Harry Osborn teamed up to fight the villains and save a damsel in distress which was great. But when they got their Peter was incapacitated while Osborn was doing great on his glider. There were multiple opportunities for him to save MJ, but clearly he was put on fight duty so that Peter could save his girlfriend. The way this was portrayed felt contrived and annoying, especially since it had already been established that Harry liked her as well and would have been equally concerned about her getting hurt.

Saw the trailers of "Spider-Man 2012" and Emo-Spider-Man is how I think I'd describe him. Hope Spidey isn't too serious or dark or he wouldn't be the Spider-Man we've all come to know and love. Keep those wisecracks and one-liners coming Spidey or you'll turn into just another Batman.
