Playing the Figures
There is nothing in the rules that stops Joker teaming up with Batman and players will usually find they get a better overall team if they mix their figures. Most of the players whom the Alpha game is aimed at, however, are going to want to assemble a force of heroes to play against there villains. With this in mind we will have a look at the two sides.
Brave and the Bold
With only thirty-one figures in the set and 20% of them being a version of Batman, one of which comes in every booster, building a team with even a simple theme of Heroes is likely to see more than one version the caped crusader. The four easily available Batman (numbered 1 through 4) add up to 220 points and make for a good starting team. There are several 30 point common figures (Robin or Alfred) in the set that can be used as the fifth figure and fill out the 250 point maximum. While most players will quickly see the value in Nightwing’s dial full of Leadership or Caped Crusaders Flurry, I thought I would highlight two other heroes that may be overlooked.
Eight range with eight movement Running Shot means she can target almost anywhere on the map. With all the leadership in the set it is easy to boost her 9 Attack Value.
There are only two Alpha figures with Healing (support), and while both have to take damage before they gain the power, Alfred offers Stealth to help keep him on his healing slots and Energy Explosion which can help get around some of those pesky defense powers (like Mastermind and Shape Change) should you be able to shoot the person standing next to them.
