Kevin Boink has had a long interest in comic books. He's been a comic store owner, comic book reader, HeroClix player, and now a comic book author. We sat down with Kevin to find out about his new book, The Zombie's Hand, and what it's about.
(Just a side note, I was trying to think of a clever title for this article, but my mind's blank. Feel free to post your suggestions)
The Le: So you've got a new comic out. Tell us about The Zombie's Hand.
K.Boink: The Zombie's Hand is an 8 page story modeled after an old EC comic story like Tales From the Crypt. It sets up the story of Eddie Cadaver who is murdered by his friends and returns as the first zombie who retains full human intelligence.
The Le: Why Zombies?
K.Boink: I love monsters. Zombies are the first truly American monster. Sure the word might come from voodoo traditions, but the flesh-eating creatures we all know and love were created by George Romero and those who followed him. I thought it would be a fun challenge to do a zombie story that would continue that legacy, but also break new ground and make the zombie the central character.
The Le: I noticed all the competition on Zuda. What makes your comic different?
K.Boink: Most Zuda submissions just tell a few pages of a story. We designed our story to be a complete 8 page story. It is meant to be the first in a series of 13 storys, each 8 pages long, that will tell a larger story.
The Le: You're clearly interested in comics, and I know you play HeroClix. What's your favorite Clix team, and why?
K.Boink: My background in gaming comes from rpgs like Champions. So when it comes to Heroclix a bit of that mindset carries over and I try to stick with teams that make sense. I've put together a JSA team, as the oldest superhero team in comics it features a large and diverse roster.
