Chase figures
There is no set determination on chase figures. They will continue to be done however it makes sense for a particular set. I told him that I like they way they were handled both in DC75 and CA as the distribution was essentially “equalized”. I told him that buying a case such for a set such as B&tB and not getting a chase leads to the buyer to feel like that they didn’t get their money’s worth for that case. I also told him that I liked WoS extra SRs (rather than chases).
He indicated that we probably wouldn’t see that kind of configuration again as WoS sales were the lowest under the new WK. I countered that it was likely due to a lack of other compelling pieces in the set. After all, what do we see from that set? Bullseye and Nightcrawler. That’s pretty much it.
Besides, B&tB didn’t appear to sell that well and it had chase figures. I’m not sure if I made my point or not. ;-)
Collation/dupes/etc
As a part of the discussion of quality (and cost), duplicates came up. Justin stated that in order to keep cost down the “blind” collation (and therefore, the glut of duplicate commons and uncommons that we all receive) as to remain. He stated that they could do fixed sets but the cost per fig would be more.
He pointed to the figures that they are doing for Paizo (I believe) as an example. Those figures will run (I think he said) $4 each. He didn’t think that the general HeroClix player was willing to pay that. I told him that personally, I’ve never been in it for the “collecting” aspect of it. I would pay a bit more for a complete set and be done with it. I understand his reasoning, but it doesn’t reflect what I want out of it. :-)
