The last 5-pages is a setup for the over-all storyline - a man is found dead against a wall with a dozen knives in his body. Batman and Harvey Dent are clearly on good terms, and Batman uses his James Bond devices to analyze the DNA underneath the victim's fingernails.
That's right, Batman has a portable DNA sequencer in his wrist band. As if that isn't enough to insult the reader, the DNA analysis is completed in literally minutes. And as if to add even more insult to more injury, the DNA turns out to be none other than that of Dick Grayson.
What an incredible lame final page to end already awful book. After all, we know that DC is never going to rock the boat by turning Dick Grayson into a killer, so he's going to be found innocent by the time the story ends. And Dick's an adult so he's certainly not going to panic by any of this. Seriously, we know how it's going to end so why should we care about this story? After all, it's not like Batman's going to use any real detective work to find the real killer -- he's just going to google it with his contact lenses.
If there's any saving grace to this book, it's the artwork. Greg Capullo (penciller) shows that he's still at the top of his game and and Jonathan Glapion (inker) really brings things to life. But even the good artwork can't save Batman #1 from a nearly failing grade.
