Karl "Hair10" Markovich was one of the earliest HeroClix rules arbiter for Wizkids for many years. He's since left the world of arbiting, but his legacy still stands. We sit down with Karl to get his thoughts on HeroClix, and more.
The Le: You mentioned that you play tested HorrorClix. What's your opinion of it?
Hair10: I thought it was an OK game. Moved a bit slow for my tastes however (all that running around chasing victims up front). I have played an Alien swarm in a HeroClix match using the printed colors on the dials and relating them back to the HC powers of the same colors. Now that was fun!
I tend to disagree with those that think HrC and HC should have been 100% compatible. I'm not sure you could have kept the same mechanics that you had in HrC (becoming blooded, plot twists, and such). Without the mechanics it wouldn't have been a different game... We would just have had monster expansions for HeroClix
Did not making it compatible lead to its demise? Maybe. Certainly it would have sold more if it was. But I think it suffered more from not having a strong licensed property (or more licensed properties) or a strong 'intellectual' property (such as MW did).
The Le: What HeroClix figures would you like to see in the future (that have not yet been made)?
Hair10: As a big Firestorm fan I'd like to see a couple more of his classic villians such as Tyhoon, Tokamak, Black Bison, Plastique, and Slipknot. Nebiros (the demon who turned Dan Cassidy into the Blue Devil) would be cool to have. We still need a Nightmaster (I'm tired of subbing in Swordsman!) and Killer Moth. Now that Marvel has the rights to the character, I'd love to have a Miracleman (Niel Gaimen's take on him). Some more indy stuff (Bomb Queen! Fallen Angel!) would definitely be nice.
