One area of the film that I was both thrilled and disappointed with was the Howling Commandoes or are they supposed to be the Invaders, I’m not really sure. In any event there is plenty of screen time for Cap’s team of roughnecks, including his best friend Bucky Barnes played well by Sebastian Stan. But other than Bucky, the others don’t seem to get introduced at any point in the film. Sure, we comic geeks know that’s Timothy “Dum Dum” Dugan & James Montgomery Falsworth helping take out the bad guys, but average movie goers will come to know them simply as “Those guys who help Cap and Bucky”.
Ah, what about the Captain himself? Chris Evans does a solid job balancing both Steve Rogers and Captain America. As Steve, he displays all the characteristics you would want to see. He is driven, brave, compassionate and likeable. As Captain America he handles the action sequences well and is credible as the living legend. Having Howard Stark (played by Dominic Cooper) involved in Cap’s origin is a nice touch, and links Captain America with the modern Marvel Films.
