Meanwhile, Wonder Woman and the boys have driven back the Parademons. She states she followed the things from Washington all the way to Metropolis. Is Metropolis still in New York State in this continuity? So she battled the hordes from Washington D.C.? That’s a long distance, princess. And yet it’s not established here whether she can fly as she did in the previous continuity or that she uses an invisible plane. Another story beat that new and most casual fans would not notice, but eagle-eyed fans would. It feels a little lazy and a quick lead-in to how Wondy joins the assembled group. A scene or two of her making her way to Metropolis would have been nice and plug that plot hole.
GL spouts that they scared them off but Batman corrects that, saying they’re merely assembling at a certain point, and Flash notes they are circling the water. A sudden shift to Victor’s side of the story as his Operating System is booting up (or I’m assuming that’s what’s going on). A scene of what appears to be a section of Hell itself and its undisputed master fills Vic’s visions just as another boom tube opens in the middle of the waters and reveals a colossal… thing. I can’t tell whether it’s a tower or a ship. Part of it is a landmass, and yet the other parts have tech. It certainly doesn’t look like how Apokoliptian construction was presented in the previous continuity, but who knows what that’s supposed to look these days?
Just as this happens, the next member of the group arrives, non-chalantly killing a Parademon while the League takes notice of him. Aquaman asks who’s in charge, and volunteers himself before anyone can answer. But is it Aquaman? Looks like a Blonde Logan/Wolverine in an Aquaman costume to me. And oh, look, a chain attached to his trident. How original (*rolls eyes*). Aquaman is supposed to have a level of arrogance about him, but he was raised by a humble lighthouse keeper. Making him act like a douchebag among douchebags (Batman, Hal) is going to feel repetitive. And this is just his first scene! If Johns had ended that scene with just “Who’s in charge here”? With Arthur standing all regal would, it have been more powerful. The, “I vote me”, and crouching ala-Wolverine was a bit too corny and unbecoming (the effeminate necklace didn’t help any, either).
