HeroClix Online War of the Shards05-15-2013: New HCO tournament with physical prizes! See below...

(you can also go to the official announcement)

Greetings Heroes,

We’re introducing a new 6-week tournament series with awesome prizes, including a seat at the 2013 HeroClix Worlds event and physical Thanos figure from Infinity Gauntlet! The series will run May 16-June 27 (server downtime 9:30 a.m. EDT).

How it works: Each week will feature a new Themed tournament (same format as existing Themed tournaments) based on an Infinity Gem from the Infinity Gauntlet—and each week gives players more chances to increase their overall scores!

For each Themed tournament you win during the week, heroes will receive that week’s “Gem Shard” virtual item. Each week will feature a different Infinity Gem, meaning a different Gem Shard can be won each week.

The goal is to collect as many Gem Shards from as many different Infinity Gems as you can!

Your total number of Gem Shards collected (tournament wins) multiplied by number of Gem Shard typescollected (up to 6) will determine overall scores.

HeroClix Online War of the ShardsAt the end of the series, 8 players with the highest scores will be entered into a single elimination playoff for a seat at HeroClix Worlds, to be held at Gen Con 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind. August 15-18! Both First and Second Place heroes will receive a physical 2013 Marvel con exclusive figure of their choice. First Place will also receive an invite to HeroClix Worlds!

Additionally, all players will be entered in a random drawing for the physical Thanos figure, with a number of random draw entries equal to your score (so the higher your score, the higher your chances!).

All participants will also receive a virtual figure after tournament completion from previously released Marvel sets that fit the weekly theme. Stay tuned for more info on the weekly Themed tournament schedule!

Following the event Gem Shards can be used in casual matches as obstacles for, or to attack, opponents.

Mark your calendars and check out the rules and regulations below!

Unfamiliar with HeroClix Worlds? It’s the largest HeroClix event and competition, hosted by game creator WizKids Games and held annually at Gen Con in Indianapolis, IN. Prizes include Shuma Gorath, Death Mask, various 2013 convention prizes, factory sets and more!

Be sure to share this with all of your HeroClix friends!

We hope to see you there!

-The HeroClix Online Team

The details:

  1. Players may collect up to 6 Gem Shard types (one per week). The 6 gems are: Soul (green), Time (orange), Space (purple), Mind (blue), Reality (yellow), Power (red).
  2. One Gem Shard type may be collected each week for a total of 6 Gem Shard types. This number will be multiplied by the total number of Gem Shards collected over the course of the event to determine final score.
  3. There is no limit to the number of ‘War of the Shards’ tournaments a player can join. Each tournament win will earn a player an additional Gem Shard.
  4. Themed tournaments follow the same format as existing Themed tournaments. As such, 1st Place winners in the Themed tournaments will receive a random LE figure in addition to a Gem Shard.
  5. Highest scores will be revealed on the HCO forums on or about July 2.
  6. The 8-person Single Elimination round (second week of July) is invite only, Constructed, with no required entry fee. Winner of the Single Elimination round will receive an invite to HeroClix Worlds 2013.
  7. Both First and Second Place winners in the Single Elimination round will receive a physical 2013 Marvel con exclusive figure of their choice.
  8. Players must be present at the 8-person Single Elimination round to qualify for HeroClix Worlds 2013.
  9. All participants will receive a virtual figure after tournament completion from previously released Marvel sets that fit the weekly theme. Visit the HCO forums for the schedule.
  10. All tournament participants will be entered in a random drawing for the physical Thanos figure, with a number of random draw entries equal to your score.
  11. Random drawing to be held on or about July 2. Winner will be notified on or about July 2.
  12. Chances of winning Thanos figure based on total number of entries received.
  13. First Place winner in the Single Elimination round will receive an initiation to HeroClix Worlds 2013.
  14. Worlds 2013 will be held at Gen Con 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind. August 15-18. Finals winner must be present at Worlds 2013 to win.
  15. Invite to Worlds 2013 (held at Gen Con) does not include accommodations, transportation, meals, incidentals etc. to Gen Con 2013.
  16. Themed tournaments end June 27 at 9:30 a.m. EDT (server downtime).
  17. Tournament dates/times subject to change.
  18. All winners will be notified via email and announced on the HCO forums. Please ensure that the email address associated with your HCO account is valid and up to date!
  19. Winners must claim their prize within 7 days of notification.
  20. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of physical prize.
  21. HCO reserves the right to amend or alter these rules at any time if, in their sole discretion, it is deemed to benefit the competition, game or community.

Your Comments:
Remember there pirate game that sony was running. Great game but the virtual packs where expensive. Then sony closed shop and everyone that spent there money on virtual packs got stuck with nothing to show for their money. Be careful with spending your money on virtual packs. After awhile you can spend all this money on it and if they close the site because of low use you are out of all that money. It happened to me with the pirate game.

SORRY, Does one of you know an trust worthy online shop, that does shipment to holland.. There not

an single store that has them even online shops in belgium as well....

Thanks...

Posted by: otto on 10/25/2011 2:13:43 PM
@The Le: I'd imagine that we might all get a different Virtual Figure, a promo of the next set or something of the sort

Posted by: refrusdraob on 6/30/2011 3:13:17 PM
@refrusdraob: Shipping and handling for the brick give-away is much more, and traditionally it requires a purchase of an entire brick. It's 99% likely that the free figure is virtual only. I hope they don't give us a crappy virtual figure -- I'd be pretty annoyed about that.

Posted by: The Le on 6/26/2011 3:13:18 PM
@The Le, thank you but it could always be a redemption code to send away for something, think paying shipping and handling for a brick figure idk but thank you again

Posted by: refrusdraob on 6/26/2011 11:56:10 AM
@refrusdraob: I haven't a clue, but it is STRONGLY implied that it is a virtual figure. After all, it says the free figure "will be awarded when we officially launch!"

It makes no sense if it's a physical figure. They'd lose money on shipping alone, not to mention it really doesn't help HCOnline if it were a physical booster since most people would buy it just to get the free figure and never come back.

Posted by: The Le on 6/26/2011 8:46:46 AM
@The Le, do you know if the exclusive figure to be given out at the launch of the game is going to be physical or virtual? Can you find out please, I know you have better resources than I.

Posted by: refrusdraob on 6/26/2011 7:47:01 AM
I play MtGO and while its great for those who cant get out to the stores it is really a choose one or the other thing. The card packs are exactly the same price as they are for the real cards. The bonus on MTGO is that the more you log in and buy you get points that add up to a foil card or alternate art of a card. Also if you get a full set of cards you can turn them in (by giving them up out of your collection) and they send you a physical full set. So if they did the same thing here you get your full set of Giant Size X-Men. Turn them in (loosing them) and they send you a full set.

While Im not sure if they are going this way with Heroclix Online. This is some things they have done with MTGO, from the article it looks like it will be simular.

Thanks dude...didnt get a beta key yet...pretty much what i expected and thank you kindly for the vid...WILL PURCHASE EXPEDITIOUSLY!!!

SurferFlash had to agree to an NDA agreement and legally can't share this! He could be sued, and should honestly know better.

Posted by: Ironman1994 on 3/15/2011 1:46:17 PM
wow. something that I could be tempted by, depending on what software its running on etc. still looks maybe too complicated than it should be

Posted by: elliott on 3/15/2011 9:08:33 AM
I still think this should be looped into the price of physical boosters through codes that you can enter to unlock the clix pulled from that pack

Posted by: James T Quirk on 3/15/2011 6:36:34 AM
Sweet baby Jesus , this looks good ! Please make it Playstation online accessible !

Posted by: Andrew on 3/15/2011 5:45:21 AM
I know one thing the "virtual packs" had better be cheap, since you really won't ever have anything to show for them. 99 cents per pack sounds good.

Posted by: Phil on 3/4/2011 12:09:40 PM
I agree some with thoughts...if you buy real booster, you should get 1 to 1 online booster. Initial registration fee should give you a base set, then you can pay for real boosters and get credit, or buy online boosters at steep discount. No duplicates allowed.

Posted by: im2112 on 3/3/2011 3:18:43 PM
Too bad they can't make some kind of scanner that could scan a barcode on the bottom of a physical heroclix that would then put it in your virtual gallery . Then through winning you could earn points to choose from virtual figs you're missing in physical set . This could promote people going out to buy the physical pieces when they find something with stats they end up liking that they may not have thought about previously . Then the only money to spend would be the scanner , the program would be included and offer a way to keep track of your collections and team building options , even tutorials with better players to help teach how do use figs better (Larfleeze would be great example as people seems to have hard time with his complexity ) Although there should be a way to "purchase" virtual figs for newbies interested in the game but not sure if the want to drop the $ down for a case of the latest set to find if they like it or not .

Posted by: Andrew on 2/28/2011 7:28:40 PM
I'm not sure I like the idea of buying virtual figs, either.

Really, *I* think the game should be a purely electronic thing, simulating gameplay. The player should have a basic set of figs to choose from, and then with continued gameplay, be able to *unlock* new figures, new sets, LEs, chases, what have you. Maybe with accumulated victory points against the computer-opponent in single play, and then the opportunity to go online and smite one's friends, maybe getting points from that, too. Points-for-KOs would be friendly, since one would still gain points with KOs, even if you 'lose' the game. Very friendly.

Posted by: Juxter on 2/27/2011 10:23:06 AM
I agree with the consensus; why pay for Virtual figures, when I can get real ones?

I see the excitement in playing (I don't get to much either), but the money thing is the big issue. Especially with the line-up announced this year. If the regular boosters had a code to "open" an online booster, then that would be great. Even the other way around, where if you buy "X" amount online, you get rewards, or points, towards future real boosters. Of course, with the latter, WK would need to do more on their end.

The bottom line is: How much will this cost?

Posted by: ShadowMark on 2/25/2011 12:13:14 PM
Okay, the thing about this is that casual players of heroclix will want to play using chase figures and stuff because they DON'T want to spend a whole lot of dough on buying a whole bunch of packs or paying TOO MUCH for a figure from a collector. This game will make it so that Heroclix is more easily playable with other people, but it will defeat the purpose of playing actual clix. If this is succesful people will less likely buy real clix. If this was free, then I would play once in a while to have a good match and for practice, but I actually don't play it THAT much to begin with. I'm more interested in making customs.

Posted by: Dreadnaught on 2/22/2011 5:50:56 PM
Hec yeah, I'll play! I rarely get to play Heroclix these days, even though I'm in love with it.

Posted by: Owlman166 on 2/22/2011 8:38:07 AM
Oh, heck yes I would play! I barely ever get to play real clix these days because of my location and because the friends I played with moved.

Posted by: Preacher13 on 2/22/2011 12:24:51 AM
A lot of Poo Poo nare do wells out there . Not all of us have players nearby or a game store . Myself I have an extra problem with finding spare time , it's called wife and kids . I can't make it to tournaments and other big games held at local comic shop " by locale I mean 1 hour drive" . I'm very interested in trying it out , as long as it's a one time fee . It could be a good way for people like myself who usually only play once a month to get some practice in , so if we ever do make it to a tournament we don't get ousted first round . Maybe make it so if you buy a case you can send in receipt for a full set of virtual figs .

Nope. .and it will fail. What would make the game work is if in he physical boosters you got a coupon that credited you for the online version. Then you would see some action.

I dunno, I have my doubts on this. I for one will not be paying any $ for virtual ANYTHING. Now, if there's some way that my physical figures are able to be translated into virtual ones, then yes. That's why I don't play WoW or DC Universe. I mean, what happens to my $ if WK goes under again? I'll have lost all that virtual junk. But at least w/ the plastic figs I've always got something tangible that can be used for other things.

I hope its more like chaotic where each card has a unique code to activate it.

Nice for those without venues. Buying virtual packs at normal cost seems steep.
