If I had to pick something to be critical about the film, some of the studio’s casting choices seem as though they were based more on being politically correct than accurate. For instance, the character of the all-seeing Hemidall is played by an African America actor Idris Elba. Now these are gods based on Norse mythology right? As far as any scholar would tell you, the Vikings didn’t practice worshiping people of color. The character of Hogun the grim, one of Asgard’s famous warriors three is played by an Asian actor named Tadanobu Asano.
This may not work based on mythological accuracy, but for the purpose of the film these actors gave fine performances in their respective roles. Their parts are also rather small, so just go with it and enjoy the ride.
The film’s ending provides a feeling of finality for the purpose of its story, while also leaving an opening for a sequel. Of course, we comic fans know that before Thor sees a sequel, the god of thunder will be on the big screen again in next years the Avengers.
Final Analysis
Whether you are a long time fan of Thor, or if you are not familiar with the character, it doesn’t matter. I dragged my beautiful wife to Thor kicking and screaming, and yet she left the film saying; “Wow, that was so much fun!”
Yes, Thor puts the hammer down in a big way. This film is incredibly entertaining and does not disappoint. Thor receives 3 and a 1/2 lightning bolts out of 4 from this viewer.
Thor is availble on DVD and Blu Ray now.
