With the bankrobbers properly stopped, we return back to the main storyline -- the dead guy from issue 1 that had Dick Grayson's DNA under the fingernails. These next 5 pages are incredibly painful, as it does a few things that'll make you regret spending your money on this shlop. Here's what we learn:
1) Dick Grayson had a "run in" with the dead perpetrator a week before, which explains his DNA. Result? The "surprise ending" in the first issue turned out to be completely and utterly pointless. All I can say to that is "I called it."
2) Batman installed a hologram scanner in the morgue, allowing him to have a virtual copy of the dead body in his Bat-Cave (in 3d) so he never actually needs to "go to the morgue" anymore. Result? Batman has gone from a master detective to someone who completely relies on a computer. Not only does this make Batman incredibly LAZY, it also makes no sense since the "holographic" image will only be able to show you the outside of the corpse.
It's actually rather difficult to describe the level of dissatisfaction I felt in just those five pages. As much as I didn't like the first issue, I did have a glimmer of hope that writer Scott Snyder could surprise me this time around, but he didn't. As a matter off fact, Snyder seemed to go out of his way to make Batman over-reliant on modern computer technology. If the Bat-Contact-Lenses weren't bad enough the first time, this issue is clearly establishing the fact that Batman isn't a real detective at all. He's just a rich guy with a giant iPhone and a "Detective App" installed.
