A couple of action packed moments later (including an intense encounter atop a speeding bullet train), and Logan makes a painful discovery: his healing factor’s on hiatus. More vulnerable than he’s ever been, he is forced to deal with his own mortality (oh, the irony). When Mariko is finally taken by the Yakuza, Logan is forced to solve the mystery of his absent healing factor, if he is to stand a chance at rescuing her.
Up to this point the film is pretty flawless. Unfortunately, the third act has some issues.
Captured by the villainous Viper, Wolverine battles an oversized Silver Samurai comprised of pure Adamantium. In a true moment that can only describe as WTF!?, the Silver Samurai’s swords ignite and slice through Wolverine’s unbreakable claws.
Now just hold it a second. My knowledge of metallurgy is limited, but it’s my understanding that heating metal makes it more malleable, not stronger. It just makes no senses.
Another matter I found problematic was when Yashida forcible removes Logan’s healing ability. The process appears to be killing Wolverine. Yet in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Striker extracted Logan’s DNA and replicates his healing factor for Weapon XI. With all the advanced technology and resources at Yashida’s disposal, it just feels a little out of place having him need to literally confiscate Logan’s healing factor to achieve the same ends.
