The Le: Have you gone to school for any of this?
Casey: Well I took some drawing and sculpting classes while going for a BA in multimedia design but I didn't go to a traditional art school by any means. Just my local community college, they were helpful but very basic. I have been mostly self taught as far as painting or drawing. Most of the classes I've taken have focused on graphics design and illustration. I should be re-enrolling soon, I really want to master some of the programs being heavily used today like photoshop and corel painter. I have always wanted to be in the comics industry since I bought my first comic and learning programs like that will be paramount, but as far as modding heroclix or sculpting I had no idea. I had painted a few of my brother's war hammer figures but never thought about customising them. I was a total newb but I looked at it as a natural progression of finding creative outlets. I didn't take a miniatures sculpting class or anything but I liked to draw, liked to paint so I just started from scratch.
I had no idea what to use, what tools to get, so I started doing just the basics. Repainting regular heroclix then I was like" ok now I want to change the faces", how do I change the faces ? or the arms or the capes". Then I was like "I want to make my own cape how do I do that, so on and so forth". It's like anything you have to start with the basics then work your way up to the complicated stuff, it's trial and error mostly. I found alot of helpful tips online plus most of the modders out there will give tips on things so it's ok to be a beginner.
