TRANSFORMING
Having a "Transform" mechanic is very important to this product, since it's what seperates the Transformers from all other robot lines. I've made it clear that figures should not have moving parts, so my solution is to have 2 figures (or more) for each character, each in a different form.
For example, we could have an Optimus Prime figure as a robot, and a second Optimus Prime figure as a truck. Each figure would have the exact same number of life-clicks, but with potentially different stats. The Transform mechanic would be on both figures, and work very similarly to the Battlefield Promotion mechanic introduced in the DC Brave and the Bold set. Imagine these two Optimum Prime figures and their traits:
#001 Optimus Prime (Form A), robot
Trait: Transform: Once on your turns as a free action, replace this character with "#002 Optimus Prime Form B", on the same life click. Existing action tokens from this characer are applied to the replacement figure and victory points are not awarded. The replacement character cannot use the Transform ability until the next turn.
#002 Optimus Prime (Form B), truck
Trait: Transform: Once on your turns as a free action, replace this character with "#001 Optimus Prime Form A", on the same life click. Existing action tokens from this characer are applied to the replacement figure and victory points are not awarded. The replacement character cannot use the Transform ability until the next turn.
There you have it. With some slight modifications, we now have 2 figures that can be interchangeably swapped as a free action, but only once per turn in order to prevent abuse. Imagine if Optimus Prime (as a truck) has a special power that let's him move his full speed, transform, then get a free attack. The possibilities are endless!
This Transform mechanic would also work very well for triple changers like Astrotrain and Blitzwing (those characters would have 3 sculpts each). And since we have variations in size, a double-base Soundwave robot can transform into a single-base cassette player.
Having multiple sculpts per character would essentially double the number of sculpts out there, which could lead to blind packs. That being said, I think Wizkids is better off marketing this as non-blind action packs. You'd never want to buy a product with Starscream the robot without the airplane form to go with it.
